Title: server IP on website
Post by: SherlockH on November 07, 2014, 01:00:10 AM
Actually, I find it hard to find the IP of the server on the Sentinel craft webpage. Would it be possible to add it to somewhere eye-catching on the homepage?

The ip is quite easy to know since you only add play. to the webpage url. Most pople who join get the ip from the voting websites. Imo, it would be nice to add it but requesting that is like requesting the plugins page to be filled.. Lol.

It was like I wasn't home next to my Minecraft and my friend ask me for the IP and I can't find it...

Just like most things, I take this stance. Sherlock, If you see that there is a deficiency, then I charge you with fixing it. PRovide me an example of what you want and I will look at fixing it.

Same with the plugins page, ect If you think it could be better, show me how and I will look at it. As it is I simply dont have the time to devote to it.

I'm just curious as to why you couldn't just go to your multiplayer section of your game..click on sentinel..click edit..and grab the IP address from there and give it to him? .-.

He said not at home, but at a friends house so he couldn't just click edit.

on what fedgar said, Ask somebody who uses PS (or even MSP lol) to take the banner on the homepage and add the server ip to it, than pm one of the admins and ask to switch the banner when they get a chance, and I'm sure they will.

I'm working on that, lmfao. I've never used PhotoShop or GIMP, or anything. So I'm kinda winging it.

Just use a simple font, NO wacky colors, with an opacity that makes it look like it belongs in the picture.

Yeah. I cant do it in CSS, or HTML. So someone needs to do that with the pic, and I can edit it in. :P
I tried to add <h1></h1> under the picture, but I don't know how to edit the padding under it. ;-;

Its not gonna save. Only site devs can actually save it, so I'd have to screenshot the code and give it to Fed.

Dude, editing source code, either css or html, isn't that hard. Implementing it on website you don't have permission to (hacking) isn't that easy. why are you trying?
Title: Re: server IP on website
Post by: c0d3br3ak3r on November 12, 2014, 03:03:17 AM
I never said I was implementing it without permission. The reason I am trying, is because I am learning how to use JS, HTML, and CSS. So whats wrong with taking up a *little* challenge and attempting to add a picture that says the server IP on it. I'm not hacking, since this includes no backdooring, exploitation, or GTing. What I was intending on doing, was getting someone with PS access, unlike me, to help me by editing the IP onto the SentinelCraft picture (http://www.sentinelcraft.net/images/global/sentinel_craft_logo.png), shading out the white background, then giving it back to me so that I can replace the logo with the new one, then screenshotting the edited source, and giving it to Fed. Please tell me in any way, how this is hacking, or implementing without permission. If you'd like to help, props for you, if you don't want to, then I'll either find out how my own way, or ask someone else.

You said only Dev's can save it... because you don't have the perms. if you were able to save the source code so it shows up to everyone on the server, (not just locally) than you would have had to hack the website in one form or another.... If your talking about taking the image off the website, you could most likely find the link where it is saved in the source code and paste it into your browser.

I have the link to the picture right there, I need someone to edit the IP onto the pic, then get rid of the white background. Then if they put it on Imgur or something, I can link it to there, screenshot it, then send it to Fed. Where he will then copy the edit from the screenshot, onto the source. That is how I intend for it to go. :P

Why exactly do we need a screenshot, Why would sending them the .png not be enough?
Title: Re: server IP on website
Post by: c0d3br3ak3r on November 12, 2014, 04:27:36 AM
Because if I send them the .png it wont work. It needs to be a link. You can do <img></img> and use a link, or <href ="link"></href>.
Title: Re: server IP on website

Well I know you would upload it to a host than give them the link to the img for use on the site, but I still don't see where Screenshots come in. All they should have to do is go to the area in the code for the img and Highlight the link for the old photo and paste in the new link.. the code is already there around the current one why would they need to re-type up the actual commands?
Title: Re: server IP on website

and the problem with this img. is for one, it's tiny, so putting [Server IP: play.sentinelcraft.net] is doable but it's hard to see especially on lower resolutions, and two: people visit the site using different browsers or skins, so making it visible on all possible backgrounds requires an outline effect on the text, which would be easy enough, but with such small font it makes it even more difficult to see. :( I don't like the play. LOGO .net it looks tacky.  If you want this accomplished you need to ask the staff if they are willing to have a larger banner on the forums.

It does look tacky, lmfao. But using href, or img, they both have specific requirements (I think) to show the picture. Try resizing the banner, maybe? Then I can put it in, see how it looks, and if its too big, we can maybe edit it some more.

not feasible. It isn't a vector img so as I resize it It becomes pixelated.

Oh. Why not make a second picture? I can add it under it.
Title: Re: server IP on website

I wasnt talking about putting the IP on the forums section. That is not really needed. Putting it on the homepage is far more useful, and its really like a five minute change with CSS and HTML. But Ill let you guys try and figure out how to do it.

Also, What Code is talking about it seems like is using his browsers "inspect element" feature to fiddle with the CSS HTML which is exactly what I would do if I was in the same situation. If you find something that looks good take a screen shot and save whatever changes you have made and send it to me. I will review it and if it is good I will implement it.

Also... editing the XS version of the logo file is silly. That logo is fine the way it is, adding the play.[Logo].com would look tacky no matter how you did it.

hey thanks guys especially c0d3br3ak3r for developing my ideas :D, I am really much a webpage idiot...
Title: Re: server IP on website
Post by: MacLeezy on November 12, 2014, 09:00:36 PM
When I suggested adding it to a banner, I was talking about on the main page ( with the picture of the server spawn) I was just working with what c0d3 gave me realizing after he sent it, that it wouldn't work, and would be tacky like I said.

About the code, I realize now what you mean, but, for this particular small edit, I thought that the screenshot was not needed, as you probably don't need instruction on something like this.. If it was a larger change to the code, requiring multiple steps I would see the point.... anyways I'm off to go play on the server ttyl.

Thanks for your support on this Fed. Ik its kinda simple and you could easily do it within a few secs if you wanted to. But I'm brand new, and this is a fun little challenge.

Thats why I am letting you try and figure it out. I suggest just using Google Chrome and using the Inspect Element function. That will enable you to modify the css in real time.

Good luck.

yeah google chrome has this nice little function that lets you edit in real time. It's only on the client side though. I often use that to delete adverts XD

fire bug addon in FF lets you edit css and is sexier then chroms

Chrome has the best set of built in dev tools hands down. If it didnt... I would be using whatever did. It allows me to simulate compatibility issues for cross browser support, ect

because you clearly haven't heard of "Torch"

http://www.torchbrowser.com/

seriously, once you start using it there is no going back.

after all its a really clean system based on chrome.

(with a download accelerated, media grabber, built in torrent, etc...)
