Title: World Change
Post by: Fedgar_Lurch on November 09, 2013, 01:58:15 AM
Alright everyone so I am planning a new plugin to help with server efficiency.

As you know 1.7.2 is the World Update, well that means there is going to be a lot of exploring. Well for us that means alot of people are just going to go in a straight line. When you do that it cashes the world size to grow exponentially.

The solution is to cap the world at 50k in every direction. That leaves plenty of space for people to grow. (50k by -50k on x and z) I have already looked and 82% of the 50k by 50k area is still unexplored.

So my big question is... How do you want 'The Edge' handled? Shall it be a wall? Should it just be ungenerated chunks? Or should it wrap? (50k goes straight in to -50k)

I have notified everyone that I know of that is outside of the 50k radius. This serves as notice to anyone who is outside of that area that hasn't told me. Contact me immediately otherwise your area will be deleted. If you have built outside that area I will happily w/e to a new location of your choosing.

Wrapping the map wouldn't put those connecting chunks a bit weird (like ... Would the biomes still be looking good and normal or there would be a straight line dividing them)?

I have no clue. Let's just assume I will only go with a plugin the blends things nicely. Good question.

I'd vote for the wall, but would it just be made out of bedrock?  If it could be protected glass or something I would prefer that.

Nice big wall. If it's a materialistic wall, a glass one would be cool. Makes us look like we're one big experiment in a little Petri dish.

I think the plugin world border with a circle perimeter around the world would be cool because when you hit the end of the world a msg in chat says "You have reached the end of the world". As this happens you get pushed back a few steps like the invisible wall is bouncy. I like this because it looks like there is no border but there actually is. (It also doesn't look strange around the perimeter of the world like a wall could muck up some terrain and look silly).

(Ik this is not part of a option btw. I was just giving my opinion)

On the other hand; having a glass wall would work as well. <--- My vote

I vote for un-generated chunks and a new world.

What about, a new world, the same spawn AND players keep their inventory. That's gonna be interesting. =]

No new worlds. Atleast not right now

New World!?! No way!  >:(
I think that what most people have suggested, or the glass wall is good enough. My only objection would be if no Mesa biomes or other interesting biomes spawn in the 50k by 50k.

A new world would absolutely suck. Do you know how long it's taken me to build my secret underwater base full of diamonds underwater canal?! It's gonna take forever to rebuild if we change the world! D:

Let me be clear. We will not change the world. You will not have to rebuild.
If we create a new world someday it will be in addition, not instead of the current world.

LOL I was just about to add "or perhaps make an additional 1.7.2 world?"..  :D

walls can be flown over and using things like WG that restricts access u can go OVER the hight cap and move thru those areas tho if theres wall or somthing whats stoping peiople from going to nether and dgo far and portal.. i would like to see a wrapped world sounds more... realistic or just unloaded chunks

Okay it looks like the big question here is... should the ungenerated or wrapped map be square or round? I am not 100% sure that you can wrap the map if it is a circle. They dont specifically state that on the plugin page.

opinions?

I like round ungenerated myself. but square wrapped (if it looks good) would be fine as well.

MC isnt round its hard to do round seams to me thta might cause errors also map wouldnt be 50kx50k if u did ? as u would lose part of the area? not sure how itd work test off line maybe?

Well I'm wondering how are you gonna wrap it? A plugin?

Okay so the vote now comes down to two choices. I can either do a circle of ungenerated chunks. Which is nice enough looking. Or I can do a wrapped map of a 50k by 50k square. (pending how everything will blend)

Opinions? Should I resubmit the poll so we can choose?

Resubmit it. I choose the wrapped map anyways. :)

personally i think a wrapped map will be fine, its a large enough area that there is bound to be some new biomes.  if not im always up for a map reset  8) lol. long as spawn stays the same
