Title: reputation
Post by: Xander27926 on December 24, 2014, 07:09:17 AM
i don't even know if such a plugin is out there, but what do you think of a plugin that gives players a reputation? positive, negative.
with so many new players coming on, there has been a rise in the breaking of rules and naughty players. and for mayors/assistants trying to not get immature player in their town wrecking havoc, it would be alot easier to sift through the masses and find players with a good reputation. any thoughts or comments?

That's a very good idea.
As an assistant from DragonsReach, we keep getting inactive players, which greatly annoys me. They come, build their stuff, and you won't see them on for the next few days... If not they never come back. It's like saying 'I was here.'
After all the trouble of spending 15 minutes or so guiding them around town, they go missing.

If there's such a 'reputation' plug-in. Then it will be very helpful.

/res [name] is the closest thing we have at the moment to a reputation plugin, /res displays:
Date of Registration
Last Online
Bank
Town(if they're in one)
Amount of Plots owned:

A lot can be told from the /res command mostly i use it for last online.

A reputation plugin would be awesome except for the fact that people do change for the better occasionally and I believe it would be very annoying if a bad reputation from doing 1 bad thing hang over ur head for the rest of sentinel life.

Also the stats page we have aswell can tell us how many hours a player has spent online but im not sure about how often the stats page updates.

all it would need is a built in redemption system

Its not a bad idea However who would control the reputation plugin since the mods and admins don't usually have much time and have other griefing/problems to take care of????

yes you have to account for ppl just spamming others with a good reputation. all staff should have control, but with them not having as much time.. idk maybe mayors, or sm, perhaps put a time limit. you can only up someones reputation once a day maybe. idk just trying to add some ideas.

Players could abuse this. It wouldn't be fair to someone to get a negative rep from someone who isn't being honest or not telling the whole story.

If this was allowed... it would be kind of an admin or higher thing. Just as ninja said, it could be abused.

We already have a reputation system on the forums. Click the heart below the player's name on the left to give good or bad reputation about the post you're reading.

Imagine it like this..
Someone new comes on, makes a minor mistake because they are fairly new to minecraft and this community.. They offend or annoy someone charismatic or they bug the community as a whole over something minor and easily forgivable..
A dozen users suddenly give them negative reputation.

Before you know it, someone's rep is trashed because on popular person didn't like them, or a group of people found them kinda annoying.

One day, you just don't wanna hear someone ask questions about basic stuff like how to get out of spawn or do craft something.. Blam, their rep is in the trash for months, if not the rest of their lifespan on SC, because they just found the community on a bad day.

A snowball rolled down the hill starts to become a boulder.. One person triggers it, everyone falls on a single person like a frenzy.

Look at it from the other side. One person is having a personal spat with another. The reputation system gives them a chance to vent that spat and have their friends and allies help vent that spat by making that person seem horrible. Your reputation is ruined because you had a minor disagreement with someone. New players assume that you do horrible things, and don't trust you.

Yeah, it's just not a good idea, because of the chance for abuse. Even allowing Admins to use it exclusively, what if they just got pissed off that day, acted on those emotions, and before there is a chance to take it back, someone is labeled a bad person.
We are only humans, and humans can be petty and bitter, without even intending it, and with no true depth of malice behind it.

Not everyone will get along, and when we don't, we will strike at one another eventually through whatever means we have available.

Agreed. When I first saw this I immediately thought of how it would be abused. As mentioned above the forum has a reputation system, and Towns have their blacklists which seem enough.. If someone is really annoying or does stupid things you're bound to hear about it somewhere anyways.. Like the town hopper situations.

I played on a server long ago, and Nil pretty much summed up why the plugin was removed. :P

You cant abuse it on the forums, unless you have hours to make an almost unnoticeable difference. If it were on the server, it would take a group of three people, fifteen seconds, to make sure that one member never gets into a town again.
