so there is this add on on the Vanilla tweaks that i always use in my survival worlds ... its aDatapack plug in that helps you with linking your nether portal which i never was able to do by myself .... and heres the link and there is a video that explains how it works (PS it works on 1.13 and 1.14)

Thank you for taking the time to suggest an improvement to the server! I have two concerns about this datapack however.

First of all, I?m not sure what the benefit would be. Calculating nether portal coordinates is simply multiplying or dividing your current X and Z coordinate by 8. (I?m also not sure how the 1:8 nether ratio works with the two different size survival worlds, or with the fact that the Nether is artificially smaller than 1/8th of Horizon). There are several (http://ilurker.rooms.cwal.net/portal.html) guides available (https://mavenspun.com/games/minecraft/) online, all that this does I?m assuming is display this in game. Nether portal fast travel is not as powerful on Sentinel compared to vanilla. We have access to elytra/flying, as well as warps and /tpa to travel vast distances easily.

Secondly, this would inherently encourage people to build in the nether, which is not our goal on the server. The Nether is a resource world that is periodically reset, and this would lead to precisely placed portals that would inevitably cause tantrums when they are lost.

I hope you find the guides I linked above helpful, please feel free to message me if you want more help with nether portals. Obviously I am only discussing the downsides of your suggestion, and not making a decision on whether it will be implemented!

I just thought that some people will struggle like i do with portal linking but i think you're right since sentinel is not pure vanilla the plug in would be inappropriate for the server and you have a point also that the nether resets periodically
