Title: 1.15 Update Suggestion No more Phantoms (Community Question)
Post by: serpyn on December 06, 2019, 11:17:11 AM
So we are not on 1.15 but its not hard to predict we will probably update to 1.15 sooner or later. In the 1.15 update you can change a gamerule to disable phantoms, But this means we will no longer be able to get membrains for slow falling potions or to repair elytras.

My questions is, If migas was willing to disable phantoms would it be worth it even if we cant have membrains anymore.

We can still repair with mending etc and i personally feel slow falling potions are useless same with membrains sence we have mending etc.

i would like to hear what all of you have to say.

p.s

as you all know even if we all agree its still up to migas.

It is a good idea, but I have to admit having phantoms is an extra challenge in Minecraft, and I really like that challenge and many other players might like it too. I won't have any problems if we do or don't have phantoms.

I think there is two sides for this argument.

1). Phantoms are annoying but easily dealt with; sleeping in a bed for a few seconds or the use of cats and the items such as membranes are useful for some players when repairing elytras. Therefore a section of the community would want them to stay within the game, as it would be vanilla as possible.

2). Annoying and people just want rid of them; by removing them using this new game rule in the future, it does mean that membranes are impossible to get; it would then require a mending book to make repairs on elytras (therefore reducing the repair options to one only).

Personally I don't mind either way, but we have dealt with them for this long why can't we just leave them in?

Perhaps we can make a compromise and make it so phantoms will only spawn in the alpha resource world. That way they wouldn't bother most people and the membrane will still be obtainable. Pretty sure we did something similar on the skyblocks world.

I'm trying to keep my opinion out of this as much as possible but this feels like a good compromise and i would agree with this as well. also keep in skyblock as well etc

I support this, if we can make it possible

I think having phantoms in alpha only would be a good balance. To me they're nothing but an annoyance in survival and don't make the game more fun or challenging, just a chore

Fully agree with that last part. If we can limit phantoms to one world (alpha) so players can still use their features, that would be great. As Amnot said, they are more of an annoyance to a lot of players because you can either go below sea level or go sleep and they are gone. It's not hard to do that but it's also not the most ideal, especially if you are using your /back command for something and now you have to reset your positions I guess you could call it. They aren't very difficult, especially with armor on. Just an annoying mob that probably 80% of the server has no use for.
