Title: Stock Market
Post by: SpiderJockey on April 20, 2014, 06:18:35 AM
Since my previous suggestion was not successful , this is another one
This is what the creator said ''StockMarket is a plugin designed to create a virtual and random in game Stock Market that has random events and can be a lot of fun.

You can customize the plugin so in general players will lose money, but the smart ones will come out making money. You can customize it so just about everyone is constantly making money. You can customize it so in general the stocks price stay about the same, with max and min prices so players cannot profit much from it.

Theres lots of random events and always room for more, where stocks prices are affected by certain world events or company events. The frequency of these events can be customized.

All data is stored using mySQL. Support for other DBs including flatfiles and sqlite will come later.''

too much of hassle, and its minecraft not the real world, isnt dying enough? also earning money is easy, so the stock would kind of ruin the economy. economy's already ruined caz of a stock style thinking where people sell diamonds real less @$50

This plugin seems interesting. But I think we need to keep the memory for more useful plugins :).

I agree with Migss, it could be a really cool addition to the server.

Still a random Stock would be, idk weird. Maybe Rich could write a code to see what sells the most and what doesn't.

I really like this Idea. I will take a look into it. Keep it up SpiderJockey. Ill see what can be done. It would be more of a minigame in my opinion.

I like the idea of a stock market and bringing real world economics into game play. Economics is one of my reasons for playing. Currently diamonds are kind of a stock investment in their own nature. Like Debu pointing out those who are selling for less than $50, well they won't be selling those at that price forever. You could buy them all up at that price and store them until the price raises again. So for me this plugin is very interesting to be able to have more than just diamonds to invest in. If this could be based on a town style stock where stocks are bought for towns and as the town grows the stock does to, that would bring a whole new game play into the game itself. Stocks are nice because they can create millionaires from beggars and beggars from millionaires. If not a plugin, I would like to see a stock market come into the game in another manner.... I have no ideas at the moment how it could be done. But none the less, the whole concept is very interesting and sounds like a fun enhancement.

Why? Lets create our own stock ingame! Headquaters @ Bazzar, here we update the whole price of every good, hum, every 2 weeks? ofc I need help, btw if farmer builds that mall here, we can use it as the stock exchange building

Ok Debu, how will you regulate the stocks? What blocks will you use and how will you keep others from buying these blocks at a cheaper rate and then cashing them in as stocks to your stock market? Those are the big questions of how you would make it work. Biggest one is how you would regulate the stock. What in the economy will make it increase or decrease? Hmm... I just came up with an idea for town stocks. We will see if it works. I will have something going by tomorrow in Paradoxia you can use for an example. It might cost you the price of one share though. :)

Edit: Scratch that, my idea won't work I will come up with another one.

The Stock Market will be available to only those who buy a stock, which will again cost money, we could put up diamond blocks (Diamonds  are the base of the stock) and then people could buy a share of 1 diamond each. The stocks would be fluctuate according to how much diamonds are put into stock and / or taken out. Normal people who want to buy a stock must buy it according to the base cost x stock fluctuation (-2% or maybe +2%) The stocks could also move around the fuctionality of towns such as wars or member loss.

You will still need a method of keeping track of who has stock and who don't. Which is where I am stuck at. If there was a way to keep from copying written books, that would make for a great stock exchange. And the value of the stock could be based on a percentage of a towns bank or number of residents. But problem is tracking the stock. As written books can be copied on a crafting table so it would not be a valuable means of stock exchange.

One more thing that came to my mind was, although it may or may not be possible, that to add the live stock market and options to buy and sell stocks in this website (sentinelcraft's website)

Spawn a pig, spawn a cow, spawn a sheep, here and there...
You should post relevant comments here not your ''poetry''

Every poem has a hidden meaning :3 here it means that people can use spawners to spawn livestock which is umm not useful :/

Remember what we said about spammy?

Purposeless posts would be considered spammy. You have to control yourself. Have a reason for saying everything you say

He commented that maybe you could add a live stock exchange. but live stock would not work as people could not shift the livestock or neither would livestock be legitimately produced due to the availability of spawners.

I believe he meant a "live" stock for the server itself.
I really like the idea of having a stock market in game. I have racked my brain to figure out a creative way to do it without a plugin, but I am at a loss.

lol I miss-understood him then. If you came up with a solution, please share it, we can always figure it out. I also don't get why people don't prefer to work as a team :/

What if say Everyplayer gets 100+ sponge when they join to use in the stockmarket and every week everyone gets 2 sponge to keep it going and prevent 1 player from owning all the sponge, and i'm not sure if you can get sponge in token shop but it would entice people to vote more and with any sponge profit sell to other members and hoarders of shares, and possibly at the  Admin Shop have a sign where you can sell your sponge for $$$$$
How to keep record?
Put the amount of shares your wishing to buy in a sell sign in a bank area I guess where at the interval of a chance in the market the person running it withdraws some sponge if it goes down lowering the persons balance of sponge, and if the market goes up so does your sponge count.
I don't think this makes sense or works but anyway

You can buy Sponge in the Tokenshop... It seems like Giving ppl 100+ sponge would be way to useful for them. If I had 1 Sponge I'd be Dancing.
Plus Wouldn't it be Better to Use something that Can be Used up? Like someone mentioned Diamonds, Diamonds Are Somewhat Rare and Valuable, But also can Disappear after use (Tools, armor etc..) Sponges on the other hand Can Be used over and over... I  Don't Have any Ideas of my own, Just here to Shoot down potential :)

Hahhaha yeah thats why I choose sponge

hmm... how about spawn eggs that don't work? such as falling entities which can be traded for other stuff.

Basically the idea is a new currency which can be used. Diamonds wont work because diamonds are available with everyone and everyone sells them. That would wreck he idea. We need a new currency, which can be traded back and forth.

Basically an idea that won't cost the server much or any ram, the idea with spawners which don't spawn cost ram
But, the idea with sponge block is interesting, say, every person in the server is given 50 sponge blocks. They can go to the server stock market ( a hypothetical place right now ) where they can store them in a specific sign with a stock name. The stock's price will change every 15 or 30 min. or so. This will allow the user to withdraw ( when he wants ) a specific amount per day (real day). Suppose he/she is allowed to withdraw only 10 sponges per day and his profit or loss may be like this
'' Initially when Debu stored 50 of his sponges in the MinecraftMinersGuild stock at the price of 5 sponges per stock ''
'' Later , Debu withdraws those sponges at the price of 4 sponges per stock ''
So he lost 1 sponge per stock. That means a total of 10 sponges were lost

Now what with the sponge?
It should be bough by the ingame money ( or tokens as davo said is a good idea ) and sold for ingame money.
suppose a sponge is bought at $400 and it's selling price is $250

You keep saying sponge... its too useful... Wouldn't bedrock be a better option... Not Obtainable anywhere. so if ppl buy it and use it for something other than stock, thats their problem they can't Pick it up again..
