it's clear to me we both have different opinions on what I was asking for with the return of skyblock. Unfortunately, the only opinion that matters to me on this is my own. It is unfortunate that you do not know me better, you might have understood before making your response that it would not be acceptable to me. Not that it really matters anymore, because having spent enough time here I know it will not change simply because I wish it to.

I invite you to review my voting history, if any exists, I vote with my wallet. really theres nothing more cancerous to minecraft in general than vote sites, they promote simply the worst to the top by baiting children with promises of free money, 'keys' and other prizes. this server has long been buried in the bottoms of all the voting list sites and that's not really a bad thing when you consider the quality of player they invite.

aaaand the reason I don't play 4 thousand other skyblock servers is because they're built around the minishop. most don't bother balancing the challenges to promote a natural progression of things, usually they break it further by treating the challenge system as a trophy or medal with the outcome being counterproductive, forcing all advancement through buying and selling to the shop. I did get a chuckle at the 25k diamonds though but really, the right challenge rewards and mcmmo theres no need for a shop.

one of my favorite things to do with skyblock is gone with this: interconnecting islands over long distances. is it the occasional spawner or fortress loot that is exploitable? or perhaps the uncontrolled access to lava that has you worried? free access to all was the best part, with the plugin model, there is no freedom. players are restricted to their little protected box, the block availability is limited to what you spawn on. I've never seen a spawner generate in this way nor wither skeletons with the plugin model.

The combination of mcmmo and skyblock without an ore generator plugin and competently tweaked challenges was the primary draw for me to this server and what had kept me here for so long, even through slow version updates, poor server performance, temperamental admins/owners and other minor annoyances. Hell, you even got a few bucks out of me, but in the end I know with this configuration I will not be happy.


With that being said, I am hereby announcing my retirement. Effective immediately.
I have already discussed things with some staff and, I am turning my survival stuff over to serpin. No one else has shown as much dedication to quickly teleporting to my loot as he, there are no better hands for the stuff to be in. Please treat him as well as you have treated me over the years.

I was hoping the return of skyblock would be the return of skyblock as we knew it.

I was expecting mcmmo and challenges without caps. I can only assume from the other comments this was intentional and is not the experience I was looking for. I don't mean any disrespect or anything like that but I simply cannot put my level of displeasure at this into words.

I'd like to see skyblock return first. having seen the current state of the plugin and done some toying with it myself, I am aware it will take some time and fiddling to get the challenges set to what we had and setting configuration of the nether to what it needs to be. the default out of the box challenges are not self-sustaining, particularly bad is the green dye one, we had plain cactus for sand here in it's place before, I would hope great care is taken to ensure that progress can be attained though challenges alone without need of any server store as is so commonplace with implementations on other servers (really the old config was great). as for the nether, the default option on the popular version creates a stack of random nether blocks for the personal use of just the island resident the size of one chunk. I find this mode to be very depressing and undesirable. it took what I feel was entirely too long to figure out but on my own local test server but I was finally able to configure for a vanilla style nether. my preference would be for the vanilla style nether we had before, as this allows for a natural source of spawners, a lava source, a natural path for creation of beacons, and a way to interconnect islands over long distances without need of warps or other staff intervention.

you can refresh island level by instead using "/is info", "/is level" still wont update after further block placement but will return the amount given at last "/is info". it should now be possible to continue advancing in skyblock using this method until "/is level" is resolved

haven't used chestshop since like 1.6.4 but heres what I remember

chest pros:
  • can be filled/emptied by hoppers
  • comparator systems can be used to make alarms for full/empty chests
  • buy/sell from same sign
  • if enabled in config, can bulk buy/sell stacks to a 1 qty shop
  • can buy/sell enchanted items relatively easily (potions too!)
chest cons:
  • can be a PITA to get it to play nice with LWC depending on version
  • needs it's own /itemno command to be working to get right IDs for enchanted items, potions
  • occupies minimum 2 blocks space to provide inventory of 1 chest worth of items
  • sign syntax vastly different from the signshop syntax we're all already used to may lead to even more confusion
  • (AFAIK) trades only money as currency, signshop will allow dirt for diamonds or even exp if desired
  • chestshop has to be added to the server, further complicating things. signshop is a very small part of essentials, hardly considered a plugin but a base requirement for most servers that other plugins like chestshop count on being present to work properly.

my opinion, it's not a required plugin. it's nice for things like making a potion shop that auto-restocks itself via redstone machinery or having an exchange set up to buy coal for $8 a stack and sell for $10 a stack that you never have to mess with. hell, I used to sell off a whole library of enchanted books with it. signshop and chestshop will play nice with eachother though without any conflict, it's only protection plugins I've seen have issue with chestshop. with all that said, though it does not meet 100% of my needs, signshop is my preferred shop. if we had only chestshop here I'd be fighting for signshop to be enabled beside it. not fighting for chestshop but would welcome it as a companion to signshop.

cant beat diamonds for dirt tho.

I'd like to apologize to fedgar for the excessive drama used in my original post, causing it to be taken in a way which was not intended, please allow me to rephrase this a bit:

anyway, as for unwanted visitors, I count myself among those that really don't want random people wandering my island. I totally get that, and that is why my portal is in my shop and a piston door separates my shop from the rest of the island. I will gladly share my circuitry with anyone interested in using it as a security measure for their own portals, but even the humble wooden door cannot be opened by anyone that is not a member of the island it's on or the admin group.

I don't think I've used the '/is kick' or '/is ban' commands yet, unsure if they're only for use on only island members or anyone on the island, but in the case of the latter, would this not be effective enough? I don't know how this one works just thinking out loud here.

well the server is back up now with some manner of 1.8.something and everything seems... okay...

I'm sure theres a great many minor little things that are different I haven't discovered yet but this one little thing with skyblock I cant agree with.

nether portals are apparently private now? I cant even begin to calculate the time I've spent in the skyblock nether connecting everybody's portals to my shop and now it's all pretty much pointless as it seems nobody will be able to enter my portal from the nether to get into the shop. I might be wrong but this is what I'm seeing here as I cant enter the portals of others myself and get accused by the plugin of cheating somehow. please tell me this is not intentional, as it effectively kills inter-island travel without aid of admins setting up warp signs >:(

mmkay, beds removed then, probably broke the whole thing now.

 I myself used to always just shift+click a sign onto my wilderness beds, doesn't look bad with default-themed skins and has the bonus of you can put your name on it if you want. sucks it wont work with LWC on it's own though, because that sign on the end gets in the way of carpet...

yeah so anyway, over at http://sentinelcraft.net/forum/index.php?topic=3520 i made the report I'm constantly having my glowstone griefed. as it is a solid block, it's a fairly trivial matter to add it to the list of items lockable with the LWC plugin already in use. Fedgar asked for a poll to get the top 5 desired lockables. Several blocks were nominated for this poll, many of them are already lockable, others are tile entities that wont work. redstone blocks and pistons are out, lock these and suddenly machines are broken, grief via /lock is possible then.

All 9 items in the poll should be lockable, as most tested ok that they can inherit the lock from a sign.  i was unable to verify heads and carpet this way though, they would not accept a sign applied to them.

other items nominated were left out for reasons and stuff.

~Spawners -already lockable
~Dragon egg -was unable to obtain a sample for testing
~Pistons -/lock to greif, nothx
~Minecarts -entity
~Ore blocks -run through mine with persist on, lock every ore, mine them later, nope.jpg
~Nether quartz -^^^
~Diamond -already lockable
~redstone ore -see ore blocks, may reconsider on this one
~Anvils -already lockable
~Item frames -constantly stolen but are entities so...
~Daylight sensor -leaving out redstone stuff for now because reasons and stuff
~Redstone lamp -^^^
~Leashes -very likely entities, untested
~richgotya -yeah good luck on that one
~Torches -much tears from staff
~cobblestone -crying likely over this one too

not sure if torches are a possibility, lots of torch thievery going on everywhere, almost like it's a game...

the glowstone I light my nether paths with is getting griefed over and over and over, I'd rather not be spending all my time making grief reports so this seems to be the simpler fix to me. wrecked paths and busted torches are annoying but I can deal with those, the glowstone though, they steal it then sell it back to my shop B[.

I've seen plugins that do this before, many of them buggy or do this in clunky ways (nuggets named moneydropmoney falling on the ground and such). the function of providing income from killing mobs can be dealt with using existing plugins if desired by simply adding buy signs to the shop for rotten flesh/gunpowder/etc. while I'm not completely against having the server buy mob drops as a means to encourage active hunting, adding another plugin to give money for kills seems unnecessary to me when essentials fills this need with a few signs and not even a reboot. additionally, the sign method would not allow for simple lazy standing at a spawner and getting rich killing stuff 24/7 as the loot would then have to be collected and transported to /shop or wherever and sold in whatever quantity is decided upon ($0.25 for 16 flesh for example).

anyway tl;dr I say do it another way.
