Bug Reports / Re: Handshake exploit
« on: September 22, 2013, 08:08:53 AM »
Even if a second password is required, I still feel that we should update. It'll decrease the security risk that way (the less the security risk, the better), and we need to get the structure data saved for the eventual update to 1.7 anyways (you like having wither skeletons and blazes naturally spawning in nether fortresses, right? Well if we don't get the structure data saved, they won't spawn. Same applies to witch huts.)

I tried going to other servers in 1.6.4 and something was up, I say wait till 1.7
Can you clarify on what this "something" is? "something" is a fairly vague and unhelpful term.

Also, again, we do need the get our structures saved. We can't just wait for 1.7 and lose out nether fortresses and witch huts. Finding new chunks is already going to be a pain for explorers that wish to see new terrain. Don't make it affect those that farm wither skeleton drops naturally too.

Ban Appeals / Re: ban appeal
« on: September 21, 2013, 05:24:32 AM »
I'm going to give my post de facto thoughts on this appeal. If me posting in someone else's ban appeal is impolite or against policy (I don't recall seeing one), then I welcome staff to remove this post with haste.
I never haven't any other trouble with the people but only one its about "Guard" i cant get him i hate him i dont like him and i dont respect him

As of now, the SentinelCraft community is fairly small and very tightly knit. If you can't get along with just one person and hate on that one person, it has the potential to leave an impact on a lot more people than just you and that person. What was it that caused you to disagree with this one guy? Something had to have happened. You can't just hate on someone without any real reason to (well, you can but it'd be stupid and pointless and mindlessly destructive). So why do you hate on each other and what can you do to settle your differences?

i  griefed because i have a chance to get carpets i have needed carpets too much

And why was griefing someone the first thing that came to mind as opposed to setting up a sheep farm? What would you have done after you ran out of carpet? Grief someone else? Seems very unreasonable to me that THAT was your first course of action.

lets drop this
No. No one, not even non staff, can drop anything. Everything you say and everything you do will leave an impression on everyone that sees it. No resets. No do overs. Ask yourself, "What impression have I left?". And then ask "What can I do to change this impression for the better?". I am fairly sure that no one wants to be viewed as a carpet thief. Your goal was to atone for that and give clear indication as to why you would never do such a thing again.

To summarize: Get along with everyone and don't steal resources from other people. Also, nothing will ever be dropped by anyone.

Everything Else / Re: Minecraft 2.0
« on: September 20, 2013, 12:40:15 AM »
Minecraft 2.0 was an April Fools joke from Mojang. The joke was played on an audience through Youtubers (mostly Mindcrack).

Also, I don't think Mojang plans on releasing a Minecraft 2.0. Eventually in Minecraft 1.X (No clue on what X will be), there will be a major feature freeze (no more development, just streamlining the game so there aren't any bugs) and things will be left to mod developers (The modding API will be a valuable asset in this eventual transition).

So, if you see a youtube video about it, make sure it wasn't published near April of 2013. If it near this day, it is very likely to be a part of the huge joke that was played on the community. If it isn't, then it needs to be a reputable video with some actual proof for MC 2.0 to come anywhere close to being valid.

The title told me so! So did the thumbnail!

Some youtubers are known for misleading titles and thumbnails. Could be a Rick-Roll type video with "Minecraft 2.0" being the lure. We'll never know unless we can actually see it though.

Everything Else / Re: What's going on for 1.7?
« on: September 11, 2013, 04:34:28 AM »
You missed something fairly big. The achievement command for scoreboards. Using TAB completion results in it exceeding the maximum chat history. There's also the summon command. These'll be useful to map makers and will bring about some really really neat stuff. Not too useful for the average player but I'd hardly consider it a "small" thing. (Sorry, I was kinda offended by the fact that the map making tools weren't listed and then was dismissed as a small addition)

Fishing Mechanics have also been overhauled. Water breathing potions will also be brewable with a special fish.

My opinion on upgrading: When we upgrade to 1.7 people that wish to see the new terrain can go out further in the world (personal recommendation: use the nether for quicker traveling). I really don't find a map reset that necessary since no mechanics or anything were changed. Any contraption built in 1.6 (and 1.5, for that matter) will work in 1.7. No real point in restarting since nothing will be broken by the update. Would just be unnecessary tears for what would be gone over a terrain update that, again, can be experienced by simply travelling outward.

Feature Polls / Re: Voting
« on: September 08, 2013, 06:14:22 AM »
I'd suggest keeping it to the current monthly system but don't have items that you can buy in the shop as a prize. Keep it to stuff inaccessible from the shop, like the stuff you guys have been doing thus far with armor and weapons in August and Enchanting books this month. If you use items that can be bought from the shop already people may tend to think "No real point in voting, I can already buy that from the shop whenever I need to."

A few suggestions:
Horse stuff (probably put some nonhorse stuff with it so people that don't dig horses too much still have motivation to vote)
Enchanting Books
Armor/Swords (Consider using chainmail, which is fairly rare)
Silk Touch Shears (Some people really want cobwebs and ST is fairly tough to get on a book)
XP bottles (Probably as a side to something else)
Minerals in ore form (Gives the winner choice in whether to convert it or place it as an actual ore block, which is different from the purchasable minerals in the shop)

It's not exactly intended to be used for THAT much storage. If you are at the point where a large quantity of minecart chests like that would be necessary for any sort of item, I would recommend actually using those items to achieve something or give them away to someone else who will use them to achieve something.

If you're THAT paranoid about people stealing from this sort of thing (joke's on them, they just took a ton of what is likely to be a cheap and abundant resource that to you should be able to easily replenish) then surround the thing in blocks and use signs to ensure that no one can even break in and access the minecart chests, let alone destroy them.

Also, I posted this in the "Everything Else" section for a specific reason. It's not really intended for the server but for MC gameplay in general. If it were server specific, I'd post it in a server specific section.

Lag can certainly be an issue so I am going to assume that people are smart enough to know what is and isn't reasonable with using this. I just posted the idea. If someone abuses it, the damage they do is their fault, not mine.

I found this small yet useful contraption when watching videos on YouTube. It basically allows you to have more storage for items without going and occupying more space with your storage (Ideal mostly for items that you end up with an overabundance of but still want to horde for whatever reason).

Video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3iZLtsLf5I

Despite using minecart chests this is still a very cheap-to-expand contraption, with every expansion giving you 27 more slots to store things in at a cost of only 5 iron ingots, 2 logs, and no space. I plan on using this for the metric tons of string and spider eyes my current grinder is giving me.
