SentinelCraft Memory Lane / SML #5 - JayDee98, IrParadox, and HvPanda

SentinelCraft Memory Lane #5

This week, I will be talking about three players who were founders of very well known towns and/or nations in SentinelCraft: JayDee98, IrParadox, and HvPanda!

JayDee98

Joined in 2013, currently holding the Donator rank

JayDee98, originally named IamSwifteh, joined SentinelCraft in August 2013 and is well-known for his building skills. On that same day, he created Mirlaz, which ended up becoming one of the major towns in the first couple years.

However, he got bored of the Mirlaz project very quickly and decided to make another town. However, it never had the same success.

JayDee98 didn't have a constant activity. During everytime he was online, he always had the intent of creating a great town, but his attempts were unfruitful and those towns ended up dying without even a good remark under their name.

There was one time he ended up being active for a longer time, when he achieved the Moderator rank. However, his inactivity afterwards made him lose the rank.

He has been inactive since 2019, when he was the mayor of his last town, Jayven.

IrParadox

Joined in 2013, currently holding the Member rank

IrParadox, or just Paradox, joined our server in late 2013. He was responsible for the creation of Triune, one of the best organized nations in SentinelCraft, and Paradoxia, the capital town of said nation.

The nation was composed of various towns in different biomes. There was one in a desert, another in the taiga, one near a jungle, etc. All of them were represented on the capital with a monument made by him. Some of these towns were managed by benjorfol, ChampionRed007, polsonator2, MacLeezy, Xander27926, amongst others. Notable current community members started playing on Paradoxia, such as AceAlmighty16, Creepy_Crawlers, and CoolioBruhh.

He ended up being a big influence on the server and reached the Moderator rank in 2014. However, he ended up getting demoted one or two months after and has never joined the server since that moment.

One of the players I mentioned above, Creepy_Crawlers, gave us this message:

"I knew Paradox when he first joined the server. Ace was a good friend of his and so I ended up getting to know him quite well. Paradox was the one that actually taught me how to create my own server and went over all the plugins, config files, and all that backend stuff and explained it all to me. Paradox ended up leaving Sentinel and I tagged along with him but he ended up shutting down the server he had made. He was a mix of funny and very serious. I do not know where Paradox is now-a-days but I know he was a tattoo artist so I wonder if he still does that to this day."

HvPanda

Joined in 2014, currently holding the Admin rank

HvPanda, also known as Panda, joined us in November 2014. Legend says his first words were /t spawn market.

That's because he is the founder of the Market town, that claims to be the "center of SentinelCraft's economy". This town holds the record for having the most players on the same town at the same time (around 100). This ended up forcing staff to create the 30 day inactivity rule for towny.

Panda loves to simplify things for others. He has written some plugin guides on forums. When Towny was not part of the server, he had the initiative of creating the HvMobFarm public farm which is the most known Mob Farm on the server (and the prettiest). When towny came back, he recreated the market town once again under the same idea.

On a quick side note, he is also one of the most active players in Skyblock, where he created a shop for others to use.

Panda ended up being a finalist of the SentinelCraft Awards and, after some years, he reached the Admin rank, which he still currently holds. Everyone trusts Panda due to its general knowledge on mob farming and overall gameplay (helps a lot on bug testing).

He also loves pandas, so don't murder one in front of him.

I asked two opinions on Panda. Annu_Mannu67 said:

"I believe a peaceful HvPanda... is considered scary and is originally from Netherlands?!. But all He love is peace and sweet bamboo cookies!"

Joelle454, which is an assistant at Market, told us:

"Panda is a very friendly one who sometimes seems to be strict, but is actually a pretty nice and sweet person when you get to know him. With a very good sense of humor, that never fails to make one smile."

SentinelCraft Memory Lane / SML #4 - Tipsytea, ninja5132, and bugsy12

SentinelCraft Memory Lane #4

For this edition, I have decided to talk about three players that had their birthday this past week: Tipsytea, ninja5132, and bugsy12.

Tipsytea

Joined in 2015, currently holding the Donator rank

Tipsytea joined the server in January 2015 and stayed active for about 2 years on the server. During her active period on the server, she managed to rank up to staff, reaching the Moderator rank.

She used to be very involved on the server's voice chat, joining it almost daily, alongside Richgotya. She has a very sarcastic sense of humour and had a very good reputation within the community because of her friendly and outgoing personality.

During her time, she managed to win a Valentine's Day Shipping contest, with CatchingCrowns.

I asked her for an opinion on Tipsytea:

"I've known Tipsy for about 7 years now and I can say for sure that she's a very outgoing person who can bring that same nature out of yourself. She's a very caring person once you get close to her and she and I have made many memories together, as she did with others too. She can bring the life to the party and puts a lot of effort into the things she loves. She's an amazing person and friend, I'm lucky to know her."

ninja5132

Joined in 2013, currently holding the Special rank

ninja5132 joined our server in 2013. She has been a part of Mirlaz since the first day in SentinelCraft.

Ninja ended up being the mayor of Mirlaz, which was one of the biggest towns on the server at that time. This town is reachable via one of the Pern warps at spawn. After becoming mayor, she is also the initial founder of the current Shadow nation.

Ninja won one of the earlier editions of the Quiz Competitions, themed around server commands used at the time. She was also a finalist of the first two editions of the SentinelCraft Awards.

After constant activity and interaction with others on the community, she managed to reach the Senior Admin rank and played a major role on server management from 2015 to 2017. After that, she went inactive for personal reasons.

She has returned recently and was granted the Special rank as an appreciation for all the work she has done for the server. She is also the founder of the current Gotham town and was the first mayor of the town. For those who don't know, Gotham is Batman's city, which is a franchise she enjoys a lot.

PaulinaCarrot, our current owner, shared some thoughts about Ninja:

"I used to really look up to ninja when I first joined the server, she was a combination of smart pretty and pretty funny. I am glad to see her come back to the community and still has not changed! Overall one of my favourite people to talk to, never had a dull moment with her and we both agree that bugsy stinks."

bugsy12

Joined in 2014, currently holding the Admin rank

bugsy12 is the twin sister of Ninja. She joined the server after being invited by her sister and got along pretty well with the community from the start.

She joined Ninja's town which was Mirlaz and applied for Senior Member some months after. She also applied for the Special rank with the role of "Commercial Airline Pilot". I'm not sure how it happened, but she got the rank somehow.

She also started a Very early campaign for #Bugsy4AdminNinja4Member, when Ninja was admin. This kind of ended up happening 6 years later after she managed to reach the Admin rank.

She has been one of the most active players of SentinelCraft in this last year. Bugsy helps hosting the weekly Trivia on Friday and Roll on Wednesday events. She was also involved on the planning and hosting of some minigames at the SentinelCraft Prom, in 2021. On this matter, she was also announced, during this Prom event, that she won the SentinelCraft Awards this year.

At this moment, she is the current mayor of Gotham, created by her sister.

MHGUforPresident is a very good friend of Bugsy on the server. He said:

"Bugsy is a really super cool person and universally loved by the server except by ninja and thorn. Me and bugs became friends shortly before I got mod (to my memory at least) and we are basically the same person. She is my best friend and I would probably play here a lot less if she weren't here."

SentinelCraft Memory Lane / SML #3 - BlacksVelvet, Aureus_Lunae, and DanteVentura

SentinelCraft Memory Lane #3

This 3rd edition will include three people who were involved on creating original ideas and popular events on our server: BlacksVelvet, Aureus_Lunae, and DanteVentura.

BlacksVelvet

Joined in 2014, currently holding the Donator rank

BlacksVelvet was a very remarkable player on SentinelCraft. She joined at the end of 2014 and just after joining, she became a citizen of Lux Aeterna and never left. Thus, she was also involved with the hosting of Maze Runner, one of the most popular events back in that period of time.

BlacksVelvet was a very friendly person with an amazing sense of humour. She was a finalist for the SentinelCraft Awards two years in a row and she ended up getting a staff role on the server as Moderator. She was also responsible for creating our current's server banner, which was picked by the community through a contest.

She was also known for her amazing drawing and writing skills, depicted on the early editions of the Sentinel Magazine.

However, BlacksVelvet suddenly became inactive while as a Moderator for an inexplicable reason and she has never returned to the server since then. This makes the most mysterious absence of a community member within our server and we still are wondering what happened. We all hope she returns back to the server as she was a very friendly and dedicated person and had a very good reputation within the community.

Fjerreiro used to get along pretty well with her. I asked him for a message about her:

"BlacksVelvet was one of my best friends on the server back in the day. She was always ready to help everyone she could on the server, she was just the friendliest person you could ever imagine. It's a shame she vanished one day because it made us lose an incredible friend, moderator and co-mayor. I'm sure where ever she is right now she's enjoying a lot of freshly baked cookies, just like she would always make for us on the server "

Aureus_Lunae

Joined in 2016, currently holding the Donator rank

Aureus_Lunae (also known as AurumCrescent) joined our server in 2016 and made almost immediate impact.

Being very stubborn with his ideas and projects, he actually ended up contributing for an enjoyable interaction between the members of our community. He was responsible for transfering the popular D&D and Mafia games into SentinelCraft, making the first game event hosted via voice chat (Mumble was the software used at the time).

After some time, he ended up creating the Hosters group. As the name implies, this was a group of people responsible for hosting events on the server. He ended up getting the special rank for these kind of original ideas and for being innovative.

Despite all this, he ended up going inactive in 2018.

DanteVentura

Joined in 2014, currently holding the Donator rank

DanteVentura is a player that is still somewhat active in our community. He first joined in 2014 and his first town was Iberia, managed by Rich and Migas. Some months after, he started hosting our server's first Trivia Events.

He applied for Special after hosting some of those trivia contests. After getting promoted, he also started focusing on a new interview series, Know Your Staff, where he interviewed staff members of SentinelCraft. He was briefly a staff member of SentinelCraft, reaching the Moderator rank.

Unfortunately, he couldn't keep a consistent activity on the server and ended up returning to the Donator rank, which he still holds today. After a big period of inactivity, he rejoined and was a contestant in one of the SentinelCraft Big Brother events. He then went back to being inactive once again for a very long time.

The last event he hosted was a Trivia Race and he is currently the leader of the [almost abandonded] Hosters group, created by Aureus_Lunae. More recently, he joined Gotham town, managed by twin sisters Ninja and Bugsy, where he helped with some small projects there and now, surprise, suprise... he is inactive once again.

Eagler used to work with him for some events and I asked for a comment on DanteVentura:

"Dante is one of the players back from the old days of the server, he is very friendly and loves hosting events. Trivia Race was one of his greatest events he made."

SentinelCraft Memory Lane / SML #2 - FatherTimeKeeper, Fjerreiro, and CatchingCrowns/krxsk

SentinelCraft Memory Lane #2

For the #2 edition, I chose to mention the first 3 SentinelCraft Awards winners! Three different players with that prize in common: FatherTimeKeeper, Fjerreiro, and CatchingCrowns/krxsk!

FatherTimeKeeper

Joined in 2013, currently holding the Donator rank

FatherTimeKeeper, or just simply TimeKeeper, joined SentinelCraft around July or August of 2013, just 2 or 3 months after the server opened. He was pretty much an established and well known player of the server, which helped him win the first SentinelCraft Awards edition when he was still a Senior Member. He was the mayor of Nos Astra, a town which was located near Mirlaz, connected via an underwater tunnel, built by him.

After winning the event, he got confident enough to apply for Moderator and was part of our staff team for a period of time. TimeKeeper was known for being an expert on some subjects related to cyber-security, having helped some people protect themselves better in this digital world. He was also known for having worse grammar than Rich (yes, that's possible).

Eventually, TimeKeeper ended up getting inactive. When he last spoke with us, during that time, he told us he was going to hitchhike around the United States. He has recently messaged us via the forums briefly and we are hoping he returns some day for a long conversation. His town remains easily accessible via one of the /pern warps.

Fjerreiro

Joined in 2014, currently holding the Senior Admin rank

When Fjerreiro joined the server, alongside his close friend CalvinPigeon, he introduced himself on the forums. As you can read there, his original focus on the server was to build a town. This town ended up being Lux Aeterna, one of the most renown towns in the old Pern world. He also hosted a very popular weekly event on the server, named Maze Runner, alongside others.

However, he ended up not just building a town on the server. Besides winning the Awards in 2015 and promoting the slogan "Leopards > Ducks", he ended up being one of the most influential players of SentinelCraft, ranking up gradually from Member to, eventually, Senior Admin, 3 years later after he joined.

Fjerreiro is a person that enjoys adventure and challenges and is also well known for not taking any of us skiing in the Alps. However, in 2018, I had the priviledge of meeting him in his hometown (an amazing week I will never forget) and I obliged him to teach me how to ski. He didn't pay though but I am glad for the amazing experience there. Personally, I will never forget that Fjerreiro was one of the main people who helped planning (with months in advance) my birthday gift for 2020. Even though it was not his original idea (I believe), he was responsible for choosing the camera and sending it to me.

He has recently been more busy but he is still a crucial part of the main staff team.

I asked Calvin, his childhood friend, for a quote on him:

"Fjerreiro the Leopard is a "lazy horse" but he would never let anyone of us down "

PaulinaCarrot, our current owner and one of his closest friends on SentinelCraft, wrote the following:

"Fjerreiro is my secret twin, we used to make jokes about having the same ideas and opinions before and that made us good friends. He is a wonderful friend and always thoughtful about the community, even when he is not here he holds it dear to his heart. I wish him the best as always."

CatchingCrowns/krxsk

Joined in 2013, currently holding the Donator rank

CatchingCrowns, or more recently krxsk, is a member of our community since 2013. She was invited by a friend back then. Even though they left after a while, she returned some months later.

Even though she was kind of quiet at the beginning, she started to interact more with others some time later. She ended up being part of our staff team, reaching the Admin rank, back in 2016/2017.

CatchingCrowns (the username she had as staff on the server) ended up winning the SentinelCraft Awards in 2016, when she was Moderator. She was rewarded for being funny and one of the most dedicated players at that time.

She is also known for being an artistic person and taking amazing photographs. Personally, I haven't seen many of them, but others can vouch for this. She also managed the server's "Arts Club" chat, when we were still using Skype. Lately, she has been less active, but that doesn't take out the importance she had and has on the server's community!

She is a very good friend of Elisthetic. I asked her to write something about her:

"Greatest friend you could ever ask for, with a heart of gold, the amount of compassion she can offer exceeds what her (tiny) physical self can harness. Excellent friend, even more astonishing human being. Anyone that has ever ran into her in their lives should consider themselves very lucky."

SentinelCraft Memory Lane #1

For the #1 edition of this new series, we will look into the #1 owner, the #1 player, and the #1 staff member/moderator of SentinelCraft! I hope you enjoy the read!

Fedgar_Lurch

Joined in 2013, currently holding the Founder rank

The best way to start this series is by remembering our first owner and the person who created the concept, with the help of Rich and myself. The three of us came from another server and were looking forward for a bit more progress there which was not coming. Seeing this, Fedgar took the helm to start a new server with our help, called SentinelCraft.

We ended up opening to public on June 13, 2013. There was still a lot to be done though. However, Fedgar's leadership and enthusiasm around the server lead to a major development during the next couple of months after opening (new plugins, gameplay improvement, donations, forums, website, growing up our staff team, and more).

Without him, the server wouldn't even exist, so we should all appreciate Fedgar's work and dedication throughout the years. He stepped down from being owner on April 1, 2017 but still is an important role for our main staff team, giving important advice and giving a big hand when something breaks. As a close friend of him, I had the priviledge of meeting him in the person and it was one of the best moments I had during that time.

I asked PaulinaCarrot, our current owner to give us an opinion on Fedgar:

"Fedgar's an exceptional person to talk to, he's always inspired me to get better and learn new things from back in 2014 until today. He's the support of Sentinel that not alot of people are aware of. I appreciate my friendship with him greatly and hope to meet him in the future!"

xXCRYMINALXx

Joined in 2013, currently holding the Admin rank

One of our first players in SentinelCraft was xXCRYMINALXx, also known as Cryminal or Crym. He joined during the first or second day after we opened the server to public. He was then pretty much involved with the early settlements of SentinelCraft, holding a very close "friendly" love/hate relationship with the mayor of Mirlaz at that time, ninja5132.

Since then, Cryminal has been an important role for the community, setting up as an example for other members and, later, within the staff team. Unfortunately, Cryminal ended up losing access to the server for a long time, during two different periods of time, for personal reasons. However, he came back as soon as he could and resumed his activity.

More recently, Cryminal is best known for having a magnificent voice and he voices some of our guide videos of plugins we use in SentinelCraft. Some people within the community also think he would probably win "SentinelCraft's most handsome man" :O.

I asked bugsy12, a close friend of him for a quote:

"He's sweeter on the inside than he looks, bit of a chaotic sense of humor but still a nice guy when you get to know him"

Tenloe32

Joined in 2013, currently holding the Member rank

A lot of people don't know or never heard of Tenloe32. This player was the first Moderator of SentinelCraft and was important to set up an initial guideline for this rank.

Tenloe32 joined a couple of days before the server opened to public, invited by Fedgar from a previous server and helped regularly on the initial setups. He was trusted a staff role when the server started.

Later, he built our first minigames' arena, the Coliseum, which was recently changed to a new Coliseum, this one built by banacat.

Unfortunately, we have lost contact with him mid-2014 and have never been in contact with him since.

SentinelCraft Memory Lane

Welcome to our new topic series in SentinelCraft, themed about our community.
SentinelCraft Memory Lane will be focused on remembering most of our players with major significance on the server in different scales: to being staff members or to just simply engage with others within the server.

Since I am currently the only person who has been regularly active since the start, in 2013, I took the opportunity to develop this idea and choose the players to remember throughout this new series. We'll quote three players per topic and we'll try to manage to do a topic per week.

Keep an eye out to see if you recall these players and make sure to comment on their topic if you want to appreciate them or add anything else to what has been said.

Shhhhhh... It's Among Us, there will be impostors between us!

Since we have recently started playing together again, Migas is trying to set up lobbies to get more people around at the same time, since that was our main issue at these last days!

I'm using my available time to be the host of these lobbies, but anyone else is welcome to add their hosted lobbies here!

Server Announcements / It is time for a change.

Hello everyone.

It is time for a change.

When Fedgar trusted me the Owner rank he trusted that I would do my best for the server and for the community. That's what I have been doing for the past 3 and half years.

Like him, I have been here since the start and it is pretty amazing to have seen the community grow to where it is right now. A lot of great friendships have grown here and I, for example, even visited some people who play here. It is pretty amazing to see all of this unfold.

Now I believe it is time for a change. I believe that there needs to be a new leadership, to keep the motivation going and to keep things moving forward in a different pace. I believe that, after all these years, I have accomplished a lot as the Owner with a great close staff team who helped me around. The most touching moments were all the events and meetings we did together as a community, specially the prom event and, for me, remarkably the birthday gift you all prepared this year.

That gift made me realise that I miss the time I enjoyed playing Minecraft with my friends and not just to come on and fix things and, ultimately, was the beginning of this transfer process. I believe it is time to step down and let someone else from the team take the helm on this crazy ride.

So, I will be switching roles with Pauizz (PaulinaCarrot). I will return back to Senior Admin and she will be the Owner. She's a great leader and I'm pretty sure the server will continue to prosper with her leadership. There's no one else who suits better the role right now. It will definitely be a different type of leadership for the server, as we have different personalities, but she'll maintain the same focus and thrive to keep things moving forward, to make all of you happy and enjoy your time here.

This is not a goodbye from me. This is more like a "welcome back". And thank you for all of the time you spent on the server while I was managing it as the Owner. I will continue to be around.

Server Announcements / Major Problems for SentinelCraft

Hello everyone.

Well... I am sorry to say but this is definitely unavoidable to only keep between staff.

Unfortunately during an update today, I updated Paper to an unstable version, even though it was released to public. As I have never had any issues with Paper before, I thought it would be safe to just update and improve our server's performance as always, alongside other plugins. My issue report is here, if you want to know about it: https://github.com/PaperMC/Paper/issues/4658

This unstable version caused ALL our worlds to become corrupted, which makes our server unable to start. Also adding to this, our backup system was currently not enabled which means there's no way to revert things back.

I'm not sure the extent of the damage but since I had the server whitelisted (might have been the only decent and thoughtful thing I have done this morning), only loaded chunks might have been corrupted. So this might only be the 25 "spawn chunks" for each world. However this is a considerable extent of damage already that at least will require deleting those chunks, if not more than that.

I am deeply sorry for this issue. As you might think, I am deeply upset with this as this is a community I love and I have seen grow up throughout the years, I can't believe that in just a matter of minutes, the "history" of our server has changed drastically.

I just hope this doesn't make you lose interest of staying with us and I hope you understand this issue might take hours or even days to fix (spawn world is the one with most damage due to having NPC's there).

If the damage is bigger than we think, we might have to think of a new approach for the server, because on that scenario, things would be unfixable. This might include finally setting up BungeeCord and revitalize our plugins to fit this new system. ALL the player data is safe, just to let you know. This is only a world issue.

All applications and appeals will be temporarily suspended to focus on this. -Edit- Applications and ban appeals will be processed once again, as normal.
