Replace LogBlock with CoreProtect
« on: October 08, 2015, 12:52:41 AM »
Main point first. LogBlock doesn't track entities. Therefore, LogBlock doesn't track things like item frames, paintings, etc. whereas CoreProtect does.

CoreProtect also tracks water, lava etc. so if a person uses water and/or lava to grief, it can be rolled back, just by using "#water" instead of a user's name, for example.

Obviously, LogBlock is replaced, it would not be possible to rollback anything that happened before CoreProtect was put in place.
Therefore, my recommendation would be to keep LogBlock for a short while whilst CoreProtect is in place for a short while.

Hoping at least some of you agree with my opinion here.

Thanks for your suggestion however we are going to decline this you are asking us to switch to an inferior plugin that has been poorly coded

we already log water and lava no problem

as for enitys we opt to not log these things you are talking about saving time x y z locations type of dmg that effected the enity that's at least 5 coloums to save and seeing as there is over 1000 enitys PER second that would be logged you are talking about 100m lines to log per day that would take up useless space

I don't care about frames paintings and all other enitys there is towns want protected get in one

That's fair, if you're really bothered by lines of text (anything can add up).
Honestly, I would just add a function to delete them after a while to the batch / shell script running the server but that's just me, since I like doing that.

I'm not bothered by the choice, although some others probably will be.

whats the point of logging if they get deleted regularly I'm sorry I'm failing to see the usefulness of the thought

Deleted regularly? What are we talking about here? Item frames / paintings?
If that's the case, well, personally I don't place things to delete them shortly after, and I doubt many people do.
The only place I'd consider using item frames anyway, apart from a rare one off, would be a storage area or similar.

In my personal opinion I prefer CoreProtect to LogBlock in a lot more ways than I mentioned. I'd rather be able to use any item than have to hold a large missing texture, but that's not a point worthy of mentioning.

As for it being inferior, I do wonder what on Earth makes you think that.

If you're talking about the files being deleted, by regularly I don't mean every day or every restart. Maybe every month? Two? More?

A batch script can easily keep count of how many times it's been executed. I would use that as a means to have it automatically deleted, if not done manually.

There is no way to make the conversion as it stands.

Our LogBlock Database for just the main world... Is 122GB as it stands.
If we start logging entities... I can just imagine how much larger that DB is going to become.

We appreciate the suggestion, if not the tone it was given.

We looked at all the options at the time, and found that the benchmarks on LB vs CP were significantly better, and the entity logging was not a great enough concern that we would need to sacrifice the speed.

Hindsight being what it is, maybe we would do things differently if we were going to do it all over, but with things as they stand... the conversion would be a nightmare, one that is simply not worth it.

A more thorough explination of choice is much more appriciated than just calling a plugin inferior; I thank you.

But 122GB? Hot damn that's a bit much.

We have everything that has ever been done on the server logged. Ever.
Also, the plugin is inferior. If you tear into it, its a poorly ported rip off of the core of LB
The only redeeming feature is the entity logging, but they did it in such a way that it is laggy as hell. Especially with how we have mob grinders here... I can just imagine 10 million entries a month to deal with >_>

I'm pretty sure it doesn't track mobs. At least I've never found that on my server or the other that I have been admin on for a while.

But like I said previously, I'm not at all bothered by it really. I made this simply as a suggestion as some others were complaining about missing item frames and such.

CoreProtect does track mobs. Of course it could be possible that is was turned off on the server you were on.
