A suggestion.
« on: September 05, 2015, 01:40:23 AM »
Hello, I'm going to keep this short.

I'm here to suggest a plugin called Grief Prevention and does exactly what it's name says. It allows you to claim blocks by a simple command. Once you claim the blocks, only you can change blocks in your claimed radius. You can give other players the right to destroy, or place blocks in said radius. More information about this plugin can be found here.

I highly suggest implementing this plugin. If you are worried about the configuration, it's extremely simple to adjust.

Thanks for your your consideration.

Why would this need to be implemented when you can already claim land with the towny plugin?

Not everyone wants to join a town, or make one (like myself). I suggested this plugin for me and my fellow lone wolfs. Also, it's not just so we can protect our houses. If you read the plugin information, it protects against EVERY form of griefing. No one will be able to steal your horses, or take their saddles, it prevents people from messing with your hard work. People won't be able to mess with your redstone repeaters, or anything like that matter. Most servers that I've been staff on, had this plugin. If it didn't, I would make them implement it. This plugin would stop all the griefing, as it did on those servers.  (Not that there's THAT much going on, but new players often do grief every house they come across.)

I like the idea of it but we already have a griefing rule that prohibits everyone from griefing and you can be asssured that no one will grief your place. If they did, you can report them and the staff will assist you to fix or give back what was stolen or griefed.

I do like this idea, it is annoying to have to redo all my repeaters and buy horses when they die.  However, it does seem like people could use this to claim other people's builds.  Perhaps we could test this on a different world for a bit?  *COUGH COUGH* if only we had an SM+ world that we could use... *COUGH COUGH* you know, like the temp world.... *COUGH COUGH*

does seem like people could use this to claim other people's builds.

The author of the plugin already thought of this. The way it works is, new users can only claim a small amount of blocks. The longer you play (actually play, not idle) the more blocks you can claim.
This could also be great for donations. (Pay for claim blocks instead of waiting x amount of time)

I know I can't force you to use this plugin, but I highly suggest you at least give it a try. If not on the live server, on a private server. It has much more benefits than I mentioned before. (Anti spam for one.) I consider it a must have plugin myself. It's also worth to mention on the next staff meeting, if you have those.

Claiming blocks based on the amount of time alone?  Good concept, but kinda sketchy...

Two problems to this:

1. People have played a long time before the plug-in is theoretically added, but I doubt the plug-in will take that into account.

2. You can use this "claim" plug-in in your town.

Again, they can configure it so that the already registered users get a higher amount of blocks. Also, "claim blocks" are not individual blocks. It's a radius effect, let's say you mark an area 100 x 100, you can build as high as you want, or as deep as you want. Anything in said radius will be protected. As far as the towny issue goes, I'm not too familiar with the plugin itself. But if I remember correctly you can add "no claim" zones  to the plugin I suggested. It also makes additional anti-grief plugins unnecessary, lowering the server load.

a friend of mine has this on his server. and it is good, it gets ppl to play longer so as to to get more area to claim... but...
he doesn't have towny. nor does he roll back greifed areas.

I think it would conflict with what is already in place. I could use this to claim an area inside someones town easily. this would just mess with a system that already works and give staff a lot more work having to unclaim areas jerk players have abused.

To cleanly implement this would take quite a bit of work.
And if we were going to, it would mean the end of towny since the two systems would conflict.

If you are still interested, write a proposal as a poll, clearly defining that Towny would be gone in exchange for this new system, with a link to the various features, ect.

If the poll gains enough traction then we will discuss possibly implementing it.
