What do you enjoy the most about SentinelCraft and where should we improve?
As I've previously stated in my application for moderator I find this server to be well developed in many aspects. Not only server wise, but with the community in general. It's amazing to see such an old server still flourishing considering the age of this server. Yes, people are slowly losing interest in Minecraft, people are growing up and have lives outside of video games. This isn't to say that there are new younger players coming into this server, and some old players that want to find a community to be apart of, myself included. Although, to get back to my point about development wise, this server is really well developed, but it seems like updates are coming slower, I don't know if this server has a developer, but to keep it fresh I might suggest trying to find one. Another thing I saw in a reply to this post was someone said to give donators the ability to fly in the nether and end, and I sort of disagree with this point, I find that the less pay-to-win this server is the better. I think making everyone play on level ground is a better idea than having donators be overly over-powered. Although I understand that you have to attract people to donate to your server so you offer them perks in-game but I think where they are right now is appropriate. I feel like if you give donators more commands and perks the server will just be a massive influx of donators to regular members, meaning that most of the community would be donators. Another thing that people have been bringing up in this post is that they should add some sort of quest system, to add more to the game. While I find that idea to be amazing and I would really support it if it wasn't the fact that things like that take time. To that I say if you put effort into it with the resources that you have then go for it, or even wait until you get SM to apply for a special rank. I really like the idea it's just that would take a lot of work to make a reality, and again I don't know if the server has a developer to make such plugins to work in conjunction with said 'questing system', or they could find a new one, I'm sure there is one out there.
The things that I think this server could improve on is making it easier to engage new players into playing. I know when I first joined I was kind of frazzled by the amount of prompts I got from the ./login and the rules. I definitely like how the start-game is accepting the rules and learning your way around the server, but I think that there could be improvement. I think that older mature players can easily navigate their way through the commands and get the hang of it, but I think that for younger players it's a little hard. I don't know how many times I've come onto the server where so many players have come onto the server only to instantly leave. There could be a variety of reasons behind this but I think that the prompts for younger children scare them away from the server, I also think the rules might navigate people away the server too. More specifically the one rule that states you can't make automatic farms, this is definitely a major component to Minecraft, even if it's a cheap way to get resources. I agree with this rule completely but I feel like there's a lot of depth to this rule and needs to be explained more. I think that auto-farms shouldn't be allowed because it does take a toll on the server, and it makes it easier for players to progress quickly. I think the only thing you should add to this rule, and explain more clearly, is that automatic farms aren't allowed, but if it takes effort it is allowed. Even if it's just pressing a button, getting the last hit or pushing around mobs they ARE allowed, and that definitely cleared a lot up for me. At first I thought that any sort of redstone contraption wasn't allowed, but that wasn't the case and now I'm more inclined to play the server because one of the main components to Minecraft is still intact. Also I think that even if a player made an automatic farm I don't think it would be a problem considering the server freezes entities if you're a certain number of blocks away from it.
Overall I think the server is amazing and that it doesn't need to do much more to keep a good player base. I definitely appreciate that the owner prompts players to give their input on what they think should happen, be added and should stay. I'd say that's definitely a lot more effort than many owners out there with a server.
What do you expect of SentinelCraft in the near future?
I don't think players should expect anything from this server, things could definitely happen for the worse. All I think SentinelCraft should keep doing is staying up, providing a server and a community for players to play on, and do it's best to provide for it's members. To say I'd expect anything is egotistical, the server is something that's run by an owner that has his own agenda, he's doing great, and if we were to expect anything it's that he should do his best to keep his server up.
Do you have any suggestions for plugins/features that are not currently added which might improve our player base?
Other than what I said above I don't really have anything to say. I think that we should try to make the server as friendly as possible to anyone who wants to play. Make it little bit easier to navigate through the server and update it to keep up with the interest.
If you are inactive, is there a server related reason for the inactivity that you want to share with us and, if yes, what would you like to see on the server so we can call your attention back?
I think the only reasons I would be inactive is things related to my personal life, like school, my training and personal goals. I play this server to enjoy myself, build up my patience and communicate with this community. This server is doing great by keeping the interest up, keeping players engaged and giving challenge to new players and that by itself is a reason to stay. -Will
