Read history as if it were a story. I always remember that way.
I think that you are being waaaay to simplistic about it. Explain how to read a 900 page textbook that has microscopic writing like a story? History is extremely complex, and sometimes the "plot" doesn't fit together as easy as you think it does. I have no idea how you can remember WWII in the form of a story when there are so many different things going on.

Alright I'm not going to argue anymore, because I don't think you understand what's going on, but thats ok I don't blame you. I don't know how the history classes work in India, but I can promise you when you become a little older and get into higher standards, and you will see what I mean ;)

Right now I'm in my 12th year, I'm coming back to high school for another semester next year then I'm going to university for humanities, specialization in criminology and law. After I've done my 5 years at university I hope to make it into the CFL but if not I'm back at collage for another 2 years for police foundations. so I'll be in school for the next few years haha.

Homework isn't just about Remembering the answers... In math you have to Understand formulas, HW is Testing your Comprehension of those formulas so that You Don't Screw up the Methods used in a future test or w/e... Even History you can't Just Read it Remember the Words, You have to Understand the Words... Some Things need Interpretation in life, and they aren't Straight Forward, You have to Understand Historical People to Understand the Things they did, good or bad..

But one thing I will Say is... Homework Is a Way Teachers get out of Doing their Job... If Each Class in Highschool is about 1.25-1.5 hrs and Each of those Classes give you 1.5 hrs of HW.. (Which I'm Being Lenient)  Makes it like 10-12hrs of School a day which is 50-60hrs a Week... Your Pretty much and Overworked Intern that doesn't get promoted for 12 years.. and the Teachers are the Ones that go on strikes lol

Well, seeing as my job revolves around teaching, I don't want anyone to leave!

Plus, I must constantly self reflect on my practice to improve children's learning outcomes. So I -have- to stay in some form of education to keep up to date with relevant practices and theories.

Well said Mac, I have about 4 -5 hrs of hw a day now, so you got it spot on. Sometimes there is never an easy and straight forward view to things, especially school.

I have to disagree. Homework is not a way that "teachers get out of doing their jobs" obviously since we are generalizing there are exceptions. But homework is a tool teacher use to reinforce your learning.

Some people understand things instantly, and then do not need to do homework. But many others need the repetition to learn. Each person is different, but a school environment does not have the luxury of treating every child like a special little flower. They have to teach 30 kids and try to get them all to the same level.

The comment about being overworked is laughable. This is the easiest your life is going to be unless you marry rich or win the lottery. Life is like this, you will never not feel like you are overworked/underpaid/ect. And it only gets more intense. Relationships, Friendships, Jobs, Kids, All these new layers are going to be piled on in the coming future.

I rarely have to bring home homework (excluding studying for tests). Most of the students in my school that complain about homework are the ones that socialize in class instead of using the free time to finish stuff. If you feel overworked, then take another study hall.

Yeah I see your point about the homework, but I do think that there is a limit to the amount of it at which you can receive during the 9th grade. Although I do have to say that I have seen better days than the ones I am having currently (5-6 hours of sleep a night).
