Boost your minecraft performance with a simple code
« on: May 29, 2014, 03:21:39 PM »
So this is a method wherein you Dedicate a partial of your RAM to your minecraft.

Step1:
Find out how much Random-Access Memory (RAM) you have.
  How? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ph/windows/how-much-computer-ram#1TC=windows-7

Step2:
  Run your launcher.

Step3:
  Click Edit Profile.

Step4:
  Tick JVM Arguments.

Step5:
Now that you've determined your RAM, you will decide how much of it you will dedicate to Minecraft.

  Dedicate 1 Gigabyte  =
Code: [Select]
-Xmx1024M -Xms1024M  Dedicate 2 Gigabytes=
Code: [Select]
-Xmx2048M -Xms2048M  Dedicate 3 Gigabytes=
Code: [Select]
-Xmx4096M -Xms4096M  Dedicate 4 Gigabytes=
Code: [Select]
-Xmx8192M -Xms8192M  Dedicate 5 Gigabytes=
Code: [Select]
-Xmx16384M -Xms16384M  Dedicate 6 Gigabytes=
Code: [Select]
-Xmx32768M -Xms32768M  Dedicate 7 Gigabytes=
Code: [Select]
-Xmx65536M -Xms65536M
 Step6:
  Copy your code.
 Step7:
Paste it in the JVM Arguments Text field. >Save Profile>Play.

If you get an error just try Dedicating 1GB of ram.

Do you think this would work for modpack launchers?

Yea it work with mod packs and btw only a 64bit os would allow more than 1gb to be allocated to Java so this makes it somewhat obstelete for people with 32 bit operating systems.

Ps. Mod packs often use extra in allocated memory. And don't forget to keep a minimum of 1 gb free for the is and other background applications.

Not exactly Debu.

People with 32bit operating systems are the ones who are obselete.

There is a work around if you are unfortunate enough to only have 32bit architecture.

This can be used in a 32bit system as well. however your still limited by windows ability to only access 3.5 gb's of your ram, and as stated, if you allot everything to java, then theres nothing left to run your OS, or your web browser, etc.

i would recommend that anyone wanting to do this, uses the system resource monitor and look for java in the list, see how much ram it is already accessing and is using. in most case's players dont need the extra ram because a standard mc install with minimum settings (most laptop players or people with crappy (no offence) gpu's) wont require the extra ram, and the lack of it available to the system could actually impede there performance.

I Also want to point out though that this does not modify minecraft at all, in any way.

What this does is allot more ram to Java. because minecraft launchs with the java binary, you get the extra ram advantage. You should always know how a system command works, before recommending it to others as damage can occur with careless coding.
