Introduction of an ex-server owner
« on: April 07, 2017, 12:29:12 PM »
Good day everyone, first of all a shout-out to my classmate who recommended the server to me!
Let's get this self interview started!

Who am I?
My name is Roos Skywalker, pronounced as Rose. I am 19 years old and citizen of the Netherlands, soon to be 20.

Sometimes life is just a *****, especially for people who are different from the mass. Those different people are judged and outcast for characteristics that do not matter.
There is nothing I hate with so much passion as lies.
Lies and the unwillingness to change are the source of all world's problems.
Philosophy, lore building and writing are perhaps my favourite things to do.
I am an avid gamer and what people call an ''over-achiever''. Nothing but the very best is good enough and once I reached that level I will everyone willing to learn to climb with me because a true master is an eternal student.
Justice, common sense, honesty and loyalty are the most important things to me but I can also be friendly and sociable; my favourite silly pastime are memes, even old ones. Old but gold they say.
However, I can come across as cynical because that is how I usually present myself: as a gruff, cynical and intellectual person. Perhaps some even interpret it as elitist but I am not the kind of person who would demean others based on their achievements. Rather I would seek them out to help them up.
Ow yeah, I also convinced my fiancee Mazuken to join.

Why did I join?
I haven't played Minecraft for well over 3 years and I have always loved the vanilla aspects of Minecraft, seeing this server shares many similarities to my own I primarily joined to learn what separates a successful server from a bad one. I am not going to promote my server but I would like to talk about it since it is intrinsic to my Minecraft experience of the past 6 years. Another important reason I joined is because I want to play together with my fiancee on an even level playing field.

My Minecraft story
I have been playing Minecraft since Alpha but it was cracked, I didn't obtain a legal copy of Minecraft until its official release due to very restrictive parents.
At the age of 12 I hosted my first Minecraft server without Hamachi.
This server was a home-hosted server as it has always been.
The server has never had its map reset since Alpha and was also the first map I ever played multiplayer on, you can see that is a very nostalgic map.
It was on this very and very server where I and 5 other friends came together, where we made memories for life.

Only 2015 we migrated the server to a dedicated host, because we wanted to share our passion for the game with the world and make new friends.
It was in 2015 that I build a website for it as well but I was pretty new to that site host so it looks quite clunky, not nearly as polished as this beautiful site. My limiting factors were money and bandwidth.

Despite everything we had a very strict no-donations policy because we believed that hosting should be for fun and not for business so we challenged ourselves to deliver a premium multiplayer experience at the budget of 0?. We worked hard to maintain the dedicated server with money that we earned and split the costs but our motivations and goals were squashed when my family was struck with a massive financial setback.
My future looked grim, so grim in fact that might be expelled from our home!

Thank fully this didn't happen, but with our new financial situation I was left unable to continue hosting the childhood memories of our younger selves. I asked if they could carry the torch but they all lacked the hardware or the bandwidth, even more so than I did.

So here we are, I hope to join you soon!

First of all welcome.

Philosophy, lore building and writing are perhaps my favourite things to do.
I am an avid gamer and what people call an ''over-achiever''. Nothing but the very best is good enough.
I myself am a poet and DnD lorewriter. Also, I am not a gamer, I was in the past and I've done the hardest things in games for a gamer. I had no challenge in games anymore except the hardest ones. If you ever reach that point, look up to speedrunning. There, no matter what, you will always have a challenge.

I know what speedrunning is, no thanks I like to keep my bones in tact.  ;)
Still haven't beaten Dark Souls yet but that is more because I keep switching games constantly. I can't play the same game for more than a year, after that I will return to it again.

Bad for speedrunning then. Btw, we break more controllers than bones, but you need to be able to play the same game over 1000 times. Still want to read some of your writing work.

Well since you asked, I am currently working on a collaborative novel with my fiancee. It is called You Are What You Play.
It all started with a writing experiment of making a compelling story in second person because everyone uses first- and third person I decided to try something new.
So here it is: a short sample of me writing in second person, I hope you enjoy!

All of my stories are inspired and always somehow related to IT. Unlike most teen writers I never really paid attention to romance or love triangles, they distract from the action and can be quite anti-climatic.
Instead of kisses and foreplay I would rather focus on what I believe to be the essence of love: the sacrifice, the loyalty and the beauty in the ugliness of imperfection. Because the best relationships are not about revering an ideal version of oneself but about learning to appreciate the flaws in a completely distinct human being. I see flaws as a side-effect as strengths. One of my own flaws is bluntness which is a side-effect of my strength: honesty.
You should not be proud nor ashamed of your condition, you should be proud on how you deal with it.

I have only read one second person book before, from a proffesional writer. It is very hard to do it right.

Also, S4? Is the S4League, the 3rd person anime shooter?

I quit it after people started to accept hackers. I have been on the hacker buster team. The first godmode hackers hated me. Unable to disable it, and in a permacombo of my plasmasword and a wall.

Most fun was in melee only chaser, one hacker has a range and instakill hack. He only had a dagger vs my countersword. Got him to RQ with the counter.

I would have sent this as a private message if I had known who to contact.
Why is my reputation red now?  ???
If it was because of that picture, I thought it was funny because it was a pun.
I thought it to be provoking as in giving food for thought but I did not expect it to be considered offensive.
However, my judgement is not your judgement. I respect the board rules but there are a lot of grey areas.
Therefor, a warning would have been appreciated or a guideline for that matter.

Reputation is what the community things of your posts. That is the warning of them, not the staff. You can see why and on what post. I think in profile?

Reputation isn't something staff decides. Anyone can bring your reputation down by clicking the heart and disagreeing with something you wrote. You're entitled to have an opinion and or preferences just as people are entitled to disagree or agree with it.
If a staff member does vote your post down, they're not doing it as a staff following the rules, they're doing it as their own personal opinion of you. Not as an act of punishment.

I can't find it there but the offending post has also been deleted. I doubt a normal member can delete my post, I also doubt many members have the the reputation power to bring me down from 132 to -132.
In that light can I at least have an explanation of more unwritten rules that I am supposed to know? I do not naturally ''fit in'' as many of my peers do, I often trample on unwritten rules unknowingly so.
I can only improve and prevent things like this if I know what things.
Is it true that someone with reputation power 1 can give or substract only 1 point?
