5 YEARS OF SENTINELCRAFT: Give us your ideas for improvement!

On June 13, 2013 (5 years ago :O), SentinelCraft openned to public for the first time. Since then, a lot has changed and it is fascinating to see the path that server has been taking, specially for me, who has been on the server since that moment. We are also proud to have a dedicated community that has grown throughout the years.

However, as you can imagine, plugins were added and/or removed and our current setup is not even close to what the server had 5 years ago. It is important to keep in touch with Minecraft updates, to maintain our community satisfied and enjoyed with their time spent here, and also, at the same time, grab the attention of new players that might become part of our strong community.

As you may know, Minecraft in general has been losing players. Also, a lot of members who were part of our community left because they lost interest or became busy with life (yes, some people have a life :/?). Thus, SentinelCraft staff is working hard to keep the community strong and to call new players onto the server to increase the server's longevity. We have recently updated new features and we are looking to update more... with your help!

Sometimes being part of staff bubble makes us unaware of some necessities that our members need or expect to have. For this reason, we ask you these questions:

  • What do you enjoy the most about SentinelCraft and where should we improve?
  • What do you expect of SentinelCraft in the near future?
  • Do you have any suggestions for plugins/features that are not currently added which might improve our player base?
  • If you are inactive, is there a server related reason for the inactivity that you want to share with us and, if yes, what would you like to see on the server so we can call your attention back?

You are, of course, not obliged to answer them. But if you do want to give us your opinion, please reply below or reply privately to me, via PM and we will appreciate your support ;D.

Share your thoughts and help us keep the server sailing on the right path, continuing its amazing and fascinating journey <3!

Regards,
Migas | SentinelCraft Staff

What do you enjoy the most about SentinelCraft and where should we improve?
 - Previously it was the community, well right now it's still that, but it's a relaxing zone for me to escape to from my hectic life. It's not only sentinel but also other games.

What do you expect of SentinelCraft in the near future?

 - To grow and hopefull flourish back again.
Do you have any suggestions for plugins/features that are not currently added which might improve our player base?

 - I know this is gonna fall good/bad with a few people, but maybe add modded (nothing too heavy, but something like storage spaces, maybe defense stuff, and carpenter blocks)
 - Give flight back to Donators in end, nether (there was real money involved and that should give us an advantage over all players in every aspect)
 - If there is gonna be more minigames we need more people to play it, make a monthly contest to find out the best minigamer? maybe reward that person with flight in all areas (should be incentive enough)
 - This is not really a plugin, but we might need to broaden our advertising methods, I don't really see much new players, also starting as a new player there is a lot of grinding/digging/collecting to do to start (it scares a few people)
 - I know this is somewhat a SM exclusive but I have seen people request creative access as a member, maybe do it as a prize? Maybe even building contests in game, make a small town that is expanded by player build houses for people wanting to compete in that event. Ofcourse staff can remove ugly stuff
 - Make a channel in discord server public, it's possible with right perms and a bot that gives roles or a bit of tinkering with the @everyone role, that way we can help new people, and get them to stick around, while you are at it, make like Trade chats or Pvp chats or building chats with sub-roles for all of it
If you are inactive, is there a server related reason for the inactivity that you want to share with us and, if yes, what would you like to see on the server so we can call your attention back?

 - University (last year if I don't do masters)
 - Irl job that I have next to school
 - other games and slowly getting bored of minecraft without new content (hence the idea for modded)
 - developping own bot for discord

 - I gave a few ideas above how to win me back, I will never completely leave the server since I love it, but the game itself is on a low level right now so I just come for the community

What do you enjoy the most about SentinelCraft and where should we improve?

-It was the community that made me fall in love with Sentinel. Probably by adding more activities to partake in, something that will refresh the server in a positive way.

What do you expect of SentinelCraft in the near future?

-To be honest I like Sentinel as it is. Although some change wouldn't do any harm, like for example I really like and influence the idea of adding new activities. I honestly expect some sort of reward or graditude towards players who spend large amounts of time on the server. This would only motivate people to spend more time on the server.

Do you have any suggestions for plugins/features that are not currently added which might improve our player base?

-Crate keys would deffinitely refresh the old rewards you get for voting that have been around for as long as I can remember.
Maybe even making them obtainable by donation.

If you are inactive, is there a server related reason for the inactivity that you want to share with us and, if yes, what would you like to see on the server so we can call your attention back?

-I've never really gone inactive for reasons other than minecraft just getting a bit dull. Although the new 1.13 changes should raise the player base significantly.Maintaining the community as a warm place, that is deffinitely number 1 on my list. Carrying on the tradition of Sentinelcraft of how things work.Creating and influencing events that may attract attention of old members.
Happiness does not come from doing easy work but from the afterglow of satisfaction that comes after the achievement of a difficult task that demanded our best.

What do you enjoy the most about SentinelCraft and where should we improve?

Like most people have and will likely say is the community (especially the old community) it was great to just hop on and not do anything except talk to people. improvements would include things like a better voting reward system, maybe give things like mcmmo credits or like eagler mentioned vote keys.

What do you expect of SentinelCraft in the near future?

I expect an eventual 1.13 update of the server (i know this can only happen when plugins become compatible)

Do you have any suggestions for plugins/features that are not currently added which might improve our player base?

As Eagler also said "Give flight back to Donators in end, nether (there was real money involved and that should give us an advantage over all players in every aspect)"
Minigames are pretty great so maybe more maps for the popular ones (such as mob arena and parkour)

If you are inactive, is there a server related reason for the inactivity that you want to share with us and, if yes, what would you like to see on the server so we can call your attention back?

Mostly others games is the reason for server activity along with having found another server

What do you enjoy the most about SentinelCraft and where should we improve?
Obviously the amazing community which is probably almost everyone's top thing. I met a lot of great people here and a lot of fun times were shared with others on this server. I think the staff did quite well, I really can't judge that because I've never been a staff on a server with more than 5 people, of course, there were some things I wish would've happened otherwise, but I guess everyone could say that for some things but it was nice overall.

What do you expect of SentinelCraft in the near future?
Probably that the staff does their best in getting players to stay on the server, because when I was still active every day there were always less permanent players and that was quite a big issue to me because I came online not just to do my business, but also to talk to others and create something with them.

Do you have any suggestions for plugins/features that are not currently added which might improve our player base?
I joined the server only because it wasn't so big and because it had towny. I get that it's bugged, but if it's one thing I'd want back it's that.

If you are inactive, is there a server related reason for the inactivity that you want to share with us and, if yes, what would you like to see on the server so we can call your attention back?
As I've said the towny plugin was really my favorite so losing that was a big minus to me. I know some people think I left because of SCBB2, so let me just use this opportunity to say that's not at all the reason. I had a lot of school work to catch up with and I also played way more League in my remaining free time. But there was one more thing. Don't get me wrong, this is not cause I got denied moderator even though I dedicated a lot of my time to the server and really felt like I deserved the position, it is because other people, who were on the server no more than once a week and had no knowledge of how the game and commands work even in their later days of moderation in which everyone dedicated enough could learn the basic things. I think they got accepted because they had a better relationship with the staff no matter the other qualifications, simply because in my opinion, there were none. I do not wish to say their name here, but if a main admin contacts me I will tell them privately.

Hands down the community, the server feels like one big family and I mat lots of great people here. and I can't really judge the current state of the server because of my inactivity
What do you expect of SentinelCraft in the near future?

Towny, it was one of the main reasons why I liked the server, and I would love it to be back.
If you are inactive, is there a server related reason for the inactivity that you want to share with us and, if yes, what would you like to see on the server so we can call your attention back?
The main reason for my inactivity is that I don't find the game as fun as I used to, but as I mentioned before I might be back If towny plugin works again

-What do you enjoy the most about SentinelCraft and where should we improve?

As everyone has said so far it is the community and now I love the work put into restoring the server to it's full glory.

-What do you expect of SentinelCraft in the near future?

I expect some changes to be done, like adding some modded stuff or something similar to it.

-Do you have any suggestions for plugins/features that are not currently added which might improve our player base?

I would love to see more quests.

I would love to see some modded stuff on this server, because in my short experience with other servers they seemed fun just because of the mods they added to the server.

Also maybe adding something to about the guilds like some competition between, like having the option to go to war with a guild(idk what for sure but something that will make the guild compete with each other) I think that would make players join other guild and befriend with other players.

-If you are inactive, is there a server related reason for the inactivity that you want to share with us and, if yes, what would you like to see on the server so we can call your attention back?

I try my best to be active as much as possible, since I am going to college this year I might be gone for some days but never forever..

It was the community, which seems to have drifted away from this server.

What do you expect of SentinelCraft in the near future?
An updated server

Do you have any suggestions for plugins/features that are not currently added which might improve our player base?
Get creative access for normal members. It would make a building contest a lot easier.

If you are inactive, is there a server related reason for the inactivity that you want to share with us and, if yes, what would you like to see on the server so we can call your attention back?
The community ended up being drained away after some changes. And when I left, the only ones who were playing were mod+. It looked like your staff was bigger than the playerbase. That alone looks very bad.
Also several promised done to the Hosters that got denied after Migas became the owner made me rethink my ways and how to entertain people.
The leaving of the community itself also made nearly all Hosters stop trying. We want to entertain people, host events for them to enjoy. It can't be done if the community is leaving, and several promises broken.
Building outside claims can be griefed. No rollbacks will be provided as in opposed to before. So anything we prepared for events could be griefed, or our place could be griefed.

I love the community. The town plugins and the rules (No grief!). I wish that the server was up 2 date.

What do you expect of SentinelCraft in the near future?
That the server is up 2 date with the latest release. Even if that means less plugins.

Do you have any suggestions for plugins/features that are not currently added which might improve our player base?
Less is More.

I left the server because some private situations. The server was at that time not really active. I was most of the time alone online this had also an role in it. I played Minecraft after some of the update releases but didn't join the server then.

More than just an adventure!
« Reply #9 on: June 21, 2018, 12:49:54 AM »
HELLO!

Alright, to start off with, I know I literally just came to the server but I still feel like this would be a cool adition.

with that out of the way, this is what I had in mind.

We've all played minecraft for some time and we are all familiar with the classic survival, mine, grind, fall in lava, kill the dragon, rinse and repeat. Not gonna lie, I haven't spent much time roaming the servers since I get bored of the huge player bases with 1000 players online 24/7 with your usual minigames and the crazy amount of content which repeats on each and every one of them.

why not make something new? something different. An adventure that will go beyond your regular minecraft. An adventure that will have stories which will follow it as time passes on.

My idea would consist of constructing different locations throughout the world, for example (I love medieval/fantasy stuff) dwarven city, elven forest, medieval harbour invaded by pirates, mountain castles and many other. all of those could hold different quests where player could earn money or some other rewards. What if we disable the end and make it an exclusive reward after you finish a quest. I also saw a request for rocket elytra, it could easily be solved, just make the player go through a bunch of quests so they earn it. Maybe some quests will hold extremely hard puzzles rather than usual boss fights.

Not only that, those locations can be organised to have PvP events that would be limited for a certain time. One week a medieval harbour is filled with friendly people, and the other, it's a deathzone where pvp is enabled, you enter by your own risk. If you die, others keep your loot. Maybe even disable player names when you enter that area so there's no hate or revenge involved after the fight. keep it fair and square.

Maybe those quests could have amazing artefacts that only the best can get, imagine a 20v20 battle with 2 overpowered leaders on each side, followed by their teams. Those epic fights could be that small thing that will make this server stand out between the ocean of others and make you more famous.

I know it's a lot of work and it'll take time to perfect everything. I would love to show you my skills through building and/or writing stories/quests although it'll take time since I currently build in survival and I don't want to ask for creative mode or fly mode until I've proven myself worthy.

What do you say? Will you go for another round of pointless grinding or will you embark on a new adventure alone or with your friends.

I look forward for your answer!

edit: I just read the 5 year anniversary post and saw that some people would like some aditional content, honestly, this could be it :)

Quests is a thing staff considered to add when switching to the new server. We worked on it and if I'm not wrong, there's a guy that give you quests at spawn. Now, the current status of a massive project (because is massive) like the one you're saying is uncertain. If you think you're able to entertain the community with an epic story and challenging missions I encourage you to start with something small. Maybe just a small village with two or three basic quests. Personally, I'd be interested on seeing your dedication. Now, I also encourage other players to help you or create their own version. I want to see quests in the server. I love a good written story. Sentinel needs something refreshing and this is a good start.

Hello Domi, welcome to the server and thanks for your suggestion.

why not make something new? something different. An adventure that will go beyond your regular minecraft. An adventure that will have stories which will follow it as time passes on.

It seems like a cool idea and, like all the other ones we have received after the 5 year topic, we will take into consideration for future server updates. As Dante said, we have considered working on Quests before with a similar idea like yours. I merged your topic with the main one so it stays with the other suggestions by the other members of the community.

I know it's a lot of work and it'll take time to perfect everything. I would love to show you my skills through building and/or writing stories/quests although it'll take time since I currently build in survival and I don't want to ask for creative mode or fly mode until I've proven myself worthy.

Regarding the quoted message, we have a Special rank for those who stand out on a specific speciality and want to contribute for the server. If you really want to show your skills and want to contribute for the server (writing quests and/or build for said quests), that's the place to go.

Like Dante said, maybe you can work on some small quest lines + its buildings so you can have something to show us later and/or if you decide to apply for that rank. If you need creative, you might need to wait to apply for Senior Member and, if you get promoted, you will get access to a creative world. Thus, I suggest you settle on the server first and find out if you like our community enough to stay dedicated to us :).

Any questions, you can message me privately here or in-game ;).
Dedication is a key factor to reach your goals.

What do you enjoy the most about SentinelCraft and where should we improve?
As I've previously stated in my application for moderator I find this server to be well developed in many aspects. Not only server wise, but with the community in general. It's amazing to see such an old server still flourishing considering the age of this server. Yes, people are slowly losing interest in Minecraft, people are growing up and have lives outside of video games. This isn't to say that there are new younger players coming into this server, and some old players that want to find a community to be apart of, myself included. Although, to get back to my point about development wise, this server is really well developed, but it seems like updates are coming slower, I don't know if this server has a developer, but to keep it fresh I might suggest trying to find one. Another thing I saw in a reply to this post was someone said to give donators the ability to fly in the nether and end, and I sort of disagree with this point, I find that the less pay-to-win this server is the better. I think making everyone play on level ground is a better idea than having donators be overly over-powered. Although I understand that you have to attract people to donate to your server so you offer them perks in-game but I think where they are right now is appropriate. I feel like if you give donators more commands and perks the server will just be a massive influx of donators to regular members, meaning that most of the community would be donators. Another thing that people have been bringing up in this post is that they should add some sort of quest system, to add more to the game. While I find that idea to be amazing and I would really support it if it wasn't the fact that things like that take time. To that I say if you put effort into it with the resources that you have then go for it, or even wait until you get SM to apply for a special rank. I really like the idea it's just that would take a lot of work to make a reality, and again I don't know if the server has a developer to make such plugins to work in conjunction with said 'questing system', or they could find a new one, I'm sure there is one out there.

The things that I think this server could improve on is making it easier to engage new players into playing. I know when I first joined I was kind of frazzled by the amount of prompts I got from the ./login and the rules. I definitely like how the start-game is accepting the rules and learning your way around the server, but I think that there could be improvement. I think that older mature players can easily navigate their way through the commands and get the hang of it, but I think that for younger players it's a little hard. I don't know how many times I've come onto the server where so many players have come onto the server only to instantly leave. There could be a variety of reasons behind this but I think that the prompts for younger children scare them away from the server, I also think the rules might navigate people away the server too. More specifically the one rule that states you can't make automatic farms, this is definitely a major component to Minecraft, even if it's a cheap way to get resources. I agree with this rule completely but I feel like there's a lot of depth to this rule and needs to be explained more. I think that auto-farms shouldn't be allowed because it does take a toll on the server, and it makes it easier for players to progress quickly. I think the only thing you should add to this rule, and explain more clearly, is that automatic farms aren't allowed, but if it takes effort it is allowed. Even if it's just pressing a button, getting the last hit or pushing around mobs they ARE allowed, and that definitely cleared a lot up for me. At first I thought that any sort of redstone contraption wasn't allowed, but that wasn't the case and now I'm more inclined to play the server because one of the main components to Minecraft is still intact. Also I think that even if a player made an automatic farm I don't think it would be a problem considering the server freezes entities if you're a certain number of blocks away from it.

Overall I think the server is amazing and that it doesn't need to do much more to keep a good player base. I definitely appreciate that the owner prompts players to give their input on what they think should happen, be added and should stay. I'd say that's definitely a lot more effort than many owners out there with a server.

What do you expect of SentinelCraft in the near future?
I don't think players should expect anything from this server, things could definitely happen for the worse. All I think SentinelCraft should keep doing is staying up, providing a server and a community for players to play on, and do it's best to provide for it's members. To say I'd expect anything is egotistical, the server is something that's run by an owner that has his own agenda, he's doing great, and if we were to expect anything it's that he should do his best to keep his server up.

Do you have any suggestions for plugins/features that are not currently added which might improve our player base?
Other than what I said above I don't really have anything to say. I think that we should try to make the server as friendly as possible to anyone who wants to play. Make it little bit easier to navigate through the server and update it to keep up with the interest.

If you are inactive, is there a server related reason for the inactivity that you want to share with us and, if yes, what would you like to see on the server so we can call your attention back?
I think the only reasons I would be inactive is things related to my personal life, like school, my training and personal goals. I play this server to enjoy myself, build up my patience and communicate with this community. This server is doing great by keeping the interest up, keeping players engaged and giving challenge to new players and that by itself is a reason to stay.   -Will

I just got to reading all of these.
-For the fantasy world, quests suggestions: We were planning on doing it, we had planned it for over a year, but the main people involved all got caught up with personal life (Mainly school) along with Minecraft losing its appeal and popularity. Quest world just became a stressful task what with how much time it takes to manually design the terrain, and think of numerous quests, however I'm very open to migas' idea of people making a mini-questline along with a mini-zone to show us that.
Also, it would be neat if more people took initiative to apply for special rank, don't underestimate your building talents =)

Please keep the suggestions coming! We appreciate them lots.
