1.13 Update: Our Plan

SENTINELCRAFT 1.13 UPDATE - OUR PLAN


As you might know 1.13 version was released today. This means SentinelCraft will start working on updating the server, making this version available as soon as possible without losing its major gameplay features.

We have been planning this update for a while now and have decided to take it step by step. Rushing it wouldn't let us keep the server stable in terms of plugins and features and taking a long time might make us lose community players.

Our plan for the update is the following:
  • We will start with a poll. Do you guys want to join a temporary whitelist server (in 1.13) that will stay on along with the main server (1.12)? The temporary server will not be saved and will be used for testing purposes. Please answer the poll on this post (1 day).
  • When ViaVersion plugin comes out, we update it so people with 1.13 can join our 1.12 main server;
  • After about 5 to 7 days, we will get the spigot.jar (mean time to get a stable jar file) and it will be added to the test server (this server will still be used even if it's not made public);
  • We add our current plugins 1 by 1 on the test server and see which break and which are fine (Maybe announce them to everyone so you know which are stalling the update). Maybe test extra plugins too. If you have plugin suggestions please send them on "Request Plugins/Features" board (the plugin MUST BE in 1.13);
  • After testing plugins, we will add an old map (an unused one) to see if it breaks (world saving will change and might break and corrupt the 1.12 worlds so this is something we need to be careful about);
  • The test server stays up (public or private) until all major SentinelCraft plugins are good to go and we can guarantee our worlds won't break;
  • When it's ready to go, we will do a backup of the server just in case something bad happens (might take 1 entire day);
  • Then we add the new spigot.jar + the updated plugin files to the main server and it becomes 1.13.

Keep in mind that this might take some weeks to complete and this means there won't be other staff updates or events during this time.

Great plan. Super cautious. Would rather get it right in one go than have catostrophic failures

As it seems that Spigot is waiting for new minecraft updates to update their jar stability, you can keep in touch with it on this link: https://www.spigotmc.org/

We can't do anything until Spigot makes the non-1.13 worlds compatible in the newest versions.

Plugins that work but haven't updated:
MultiWorldMoney, SilkSpawners, Skin Changes, Trading Cards, World Border

Plugins that need to be tested only on the main server (unknown result):
LogBlock, Ban Plugin, Custom Commands, Mob Drops, Mail Plugin, Voting plugin and donations, Dynmap, Treasure Chests

Plugins that haven't updated and do not work:

Disguises (Free after a period of time), BattleArena, Skyblock (They are changing plugins), Auction/Market, Anti-Xray plugin, Virtual Pack

The other plugins that were not mentioned worked fine, specific bugs are expected though.
