Improving /alpha as a resource world
« on: May 07, 2020, 05:42:53 PM »
So now that the periodical reset of /alpha is almost upon us, I have a proposition. I would really like for the seed of alpha to be changed to something that is optimized to contain all the useful biomes for resource mining. Currently the resources I'm missing most are ice and terracotta, and each time I have to get these from Horizon it just makes me feel bad :P. I mentioned this to several others and they feel the same. Here are my thoughts:

A great resource world has:
- Desert (big)
- Frozen ocean (has all three ice types)
- Mesa
Maybe even including:
- Gravelly mountains (but hard to find on Amidst)
- Tropical ocean (also tough to find as they aren't their own biome)

(only non-renewable resources matter here, so no tree types/bamboo/flowers etc)

Potential seeds that meet these requirements within the 3000ish radius of alpha can be sought out relatively easy through a program like Amidst.

Some possible seeds that I found already:
  • 1919300996 (centered -15000, 3500)
  • 1919300996 (centered 0, -20800)
  • 4911873192999884472
  • 4911873192999884472 (centered -13000, -15500)
  • 4911873192999884472 (centered -21000, -17300)
If need be, I'd love to help searching some more for the best possible seed.

Thanks for considering!  :-*

This is an interesting idea, although I have had no issue finding clay in /alpha.

Hi Artinity!

I like this idea as well, I think it would be beneficial to have bigger sand/terracotta/clay areas as I find myself getting these resources from Horizon more and more often (after a while there's not much sand left, you know..)

For gravel I usually travel the nether and get gravel from there, thought this would be useful to mention :)

Big yes on the coral too, it's so pretty but sad to destroy warmer oceans!
Smile more, it suits you (:

It is a good idea, I had a terracotta mountain near my house ... and then inevitably people come to take terracotta but not the whole mountain if not a specific color and well ... they will see the mountain left in the middle XDDD

I like the idea! However, there's a slight issue. The world file gets bigger as it gets further away from 0,0. Alpha is supposed to be minimal in terms of space occupied in our files. If you could find a good seed based on (or near) 0,0 coordinates, I am happy to implement that seed into the next Alpha world!

Red_Fox_01 Don't bring up old topics, make a new one if you like to suggest something and do it here. We try to keep Minecraft experience natural. We won't use custom worlds.
