Stock Market
« on: April 20, 2014, 06:18:35 AM »
Since my previous suggestion was not successful , this is another one
This is what the creator said ''StockMarket is a plugin designed to create a virtual and random in game Stock Market that has random events and can be a lot of fun.

You can customize the plugin so in general players will lose money, but the smart ones will come out making money. You can customize it so just about everyone is constantly making money. You can customize it so in general the stocks price stay about the same, with max and min prices so players cannot profit much from it.

Theres lots of random events and always room for more, where stocks prices are affected by certain world events or company events. The frequency of these events can be customized.

All data is stored using mySQL. Support for other DBs including flatfiles and sqlite will come later.''

too much of hassle, and its minecraft not the real world, isnt dying enough? also earning money is easy, so the stock would kind of ruin the economy. economy's already ruined caz of a stock style thinking where people sell diamonds real less @$50

This plugin seems interesting. But I think we need to keep the memory for more useful plugins :).

Still a random Stock would be, idk weird. Maybe Rich could write a code to see what sells the most and what doesn't.

I like the idea of a stock market and bringing real world economics into game play. Economics is one of my reasons for playing. Currently diamonds are kind of a stock investment in their own nature. Like Debu pointing out those who are selling for less than $50, well they won't be selling those at that price forever. You could buy them all up at that price and store them until the price raises again. So for me this plugin is very interesting to be able to have more than just diamonds to invest in. If this could be based on a town style stock where stocks are bought for towns and as the town grows the stock does to, that would bring a whole new game play into the game itself. Stocks are nice because they can create millionaires from beggars and beggars from millionaires. If not a plugin, I would like to see a stock market come into the game in another manner.... I have no ideas at the moment how it could be done. But none the less, the whole concept is very interesting and sounds like a fun enhancement.

Ok Debu, how will you regulate the stocks? What blocks will you use and how will you keep others from buying these blocks at a cheaper rate and then cashing them in as stocks to your stock market? Those are the big questions of how you would make it work. Biggest one is how you would regulate the stock. What in the economy will make it increase or decrease? Hmm... I just came up with an idea for town stocks. We will see if it works. I will have something going by tomorrow in Paradoxia you can use for an example. It might cost you the price of one share though. :)

Edit: Scratch that, my idea won't work I will come up with another one.

The Stock Market will be available to only those who buy a stock, which will again cost money, we could put up diamond blocks (Diamonds  are the base of the stock) and then people could buy a share of 1 diamond each. The stocks would be fluctuate according to how much diamonds are put into stock and / or taken out. Normal people who want to buy a stock must buy it according to the base cost x stock fluctuation (-2% or maybe +2%) The stocks could also move around the fuctionality of towns such as wars or member loss.

You will still need a method of keeping track of who has stock and who don't. Which is where I am stuck at. If there was a way to keep from copying written books, that would make for a great stock exchange. And the value of the stock could be based on a percentage of a towns bank or number of residents. But problem is tracking the stock. As written books can be copied on a crafting table so it would not be a valuable means of stock exchange.

One more thing that came to my mind was, although it may or may not be possible, that to add the live stock market and options to buy and sell stocks in this website (sentinelcraft's website)
