Another gameplay mode suggestion!
« on: March 06, 2014, 10:32:56 PM »
Recently, I had been thinking, and had the idea for another map. Now this map idea is a simple one, but it can bring us more players and increase our server population. I am unaware if this idea had been brought forth once before and had already been shot down or not, so forgive me if that is the case.

Raidlands

The idea behind this is fairly simple.
Players are capable of creating a faction and with said facton,
are able to raid ANYONE, nothing can be protected, nor locked.
So the key to success in this type of gameplay is to make a strong alliance.
Now this does mean that griefing will be a welcomed idea in this map alone,
and we cannot stress that enough. But I think alot of players enjoy the
faction style of gameplay, and if we add this idea, it could generate a larger playerbase.

Feel free to post here any concerns or comments about this idea so we can possibly make this a reality.

I have no idea if that is going to work well =/.

I think It will unbalance the "peace" in the server by bringing  those standardized kids that would only bring trouble.

I think that Cryminal is right, this is a very interesting and cool idea, and it would bring in new players to the server. However there a a few things which may need to discuss, like maybe some sort of rules, and if there are any, then we would need to have moderators on that world, which shouldn't be a problem. Also, a bit of my input, I don't know how the faction thing will work, but there would need to be a considerable amount of people in a faction to have any sort of game-play as you suggest we should have. Maybe a minimum number of people required in a faction would solve that problem, say, 5?

I think this would be a great idea! I think it would be cool to have a secret base and try to attack other players, I think it could be a great addition!

I see the dilemma there, but I think that with the quality staff we have here, we can make it perfectly clear that Raidlands is the ONLY area where griefing and raiding is allowed, and I think we can be sure to enforce this rule. Altering the server rules a bit may also be required, but overall, it should bring more people into the server. Also, if they seem to be causing problems in the "normal" area of the server, we could also "ban" them from that area and restrict them to only the Raidlands area (this is just a suggestion).

I like this idea, and although it does have flaws that other people have mentioned, I just hope that if this idea is a big hit that we don't forgot about our first Survival Towny world.

Maybe if we do decide to do this, we make it available to sm+ first to test for flaws?

I have to say so far I love all the feedback and idea's and I've decided to delve a little into how I think it can be set up for optimal playing and enjoyment.

  • Make the area SM only while we figure out how to make it balanced
  • Make Multiverse handle a seperate perm file for just Raidlands
  • Ensure that players understand the rules of the Raidlands
  • Make the Raidlands economy separate from the main economy, which includes making a small shop for the Raidlands
  • Get a plugin that prevents any sort of PvP logging, with a penalty if they just shut their client
  • Perhaps the faction base has a level, and as it progresses, you receive rewards. (this will be very complex)
  • Have separate Mcmmo tables in this world, so nobody can join overpowered

Of course there may some idea's I'm missing, but this is a list of whats been stated, as well as a few other things.

im not a fan of griefing so any comments for this would be negative and if people start using the excuse "i thought i was in the griefing world" rich would lose his marbles

Fedgar isnt sure he is okay with this either. I may be jaded. But I see a huge amount of issues. Ranging from rules breaking, new plugins (some of which will have to be created just for this). The people "accidentally" greifing in the wrong world. Ect

Im also not sure about why people play in a greifing server. Simply because there is no reason to build since anyone can dig through walls in just seconds. Its not like if you build a wall out of stone bricks and it was actually a pain in the ass to dig threw it. Doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me.

Keep the feedback coming though. Id like to see what people say.

Yeah, I see the problem with that, but I think that we could enforce that the rules for Raidlands and the normal world are different, and that there is absolutely no excuse for not knowing the difference.
Also along the ideas of griefing, I'm sure that most people would not build right out in the open, and the members of each of the factions would try to hide their base making it a lot harder to "grief".

I don't really feel its a good idea caz, yea as fed mentioned, "Accidental" greifing in the wrong world. Also it would kind of destroy the [Peace] in our server, 'most' of us are peace loving and don't really want people cursing all the time. Trust me, I've gone to servers like that and the type of kids u see playing there, makes me feel uneasy...

What we could do about this thing is that totally create a different server-ish world, which will have 'NO' connection to the normal pern world (NOT EVEN THE CHAT). Multiverse allows stuff like that, but takes some good configuration; we have [rich] (though not sure if his laziness will overpower the attempt to create a different world)

Still, I would never play on that world... I don't want every other guy sneaking up to me, taking my stuff, running away ;-;

Also along the ideas of griefing, I'm sure that most people would not build right out in the open, and the members of each of the factions would try to hide their base making it a lot harder to "grief".

When most of the people are looking for bases, hiding it is quite hard too, people can just use the 'Piston trick' or branch mine every other location.

I think that the piston glitch was fixed recently, although I'm not sure of that.
Good idea for the chat channel, that probably will become necessary, but about the accidental griefing part, there are no excuses for that, and even if that became an excuse, we would and should punish as we normally do.

the piston trick isnt a glitch... a piston can normally push upto 12 blocks... meaning a 12 block radius to raiders. You should just keep the two servers separate... separate servers; separate admins... I belive all that work would be 'too' much for our admins... I'm talking, keeping rich in mind ;D

Now if you talk in those terms like completely seperate server's, then that opens a whole new door of problems, including an extra irl expense for Fedgar, which I'm sure he would like to avoid.
